Honest to say, I love how they created the concept of mega evolution. However, I don't think they lazy just because they don't develop it anymore, they just want to balance between the pkm that have mega evolution and the ones who don't. So I'm kind of support the concept of Z move rather than the mega because every pkm could use the Z move rather just some species that have the mega form. Because the players only want to build a strong team, so they only pick the pokemon that have the mega evolution, so where other pkm would go. It's not fair right? However, I do love branch evolution, the old pkm could have a new look but they still give other pkm a chance to be loved

I'm not against megas (anymore) and I like Z-moves a bit. The fact is that they're lazy because there are so many other things to adjust and balance before megas (normal [pre-]evolutions/stats/moves/berries etc.).
Also, some PokΓ©mon were already strong enough for a 4th stage evolution (Garchomp/Blastoise/Aggron and Steelix too). So, you're right, since we need more "plain" evos and branched lines (e.g. think of Pikipek's line, it would have been a golden idea making it to evolve into a giant woodpecker and into a toucan, if only they were not lazy indeed
