On one of my off days I began experimenting with cut-out figures and collage. Here is my first little experiment.Yes yes, Watership Down. Good book. This doesn't really have anything to do with it, though it might have informed me subliminally. It was an unfortunate coincidence.

The rabbit on the right immediately reminded me of The Black Rabbit of Inle when I saw the thumbnail.

Watership Down didn't come to mind until I read the description. What did come to mind was the Asian mythology of the hare and the moon. Beautiful artwork either way.

I thought of Watership down too. But I've only seen the films (both old and newish), makes me cry every time >.<. This is rather beautiful did you use some form of padding underneath the rabbits cause they look like they're elevated off the page in some way or is it just me?

Great experiment! I really love the depth of the colors and textures in both the figures and background. The spirit looks like he's made of stained glass and they are floating in space.

Ah, Watership Down. Great book and a great movie. This reminds me of the ending. I love how you did the poses, and the spirit rabbit has a very... 'old' feeling to it, very striking.

Other than what it reminds a lot of us of, this is a rather striking piece. I love the etched look to the spirit rabbit... very cool style to him. And the regular rabbit has a face that's hard to look away from. Something about that eye and the row of dots across his cheek.

Sorry if I've missed this somewhere in the pages of comments, but I was wondering whether the rabbits were glue flat onto the background or mounted (on foamboard or somesuch) so as to sit above the page. It just seems as if there's more than contrast lifting them above the page - although they are terribly vibrant.
Thank you for the inspiration and motivation to improve and experiment. Each piece inspires more sparks!

I don't thin the coincidence is all that unfortunate- If Watership Down was made into a graphic novel, this -would- be an awesome piece of concept art for it. ^_^ Watership Down aside, it IS awesome for what it is. It's like... bunny spirit...totem...patronus...kabobber.

Well.....alright yeah I admit I WAS thinking Watership Down. But if I was to make an actual movie of it, I'd be a smart move to use your depiction on the ''spirit rabbit''! I'm just saying!
But I love the background, it really does fit the two rabbits.

However, I am not sure how I feel about the black. :/ Something's... off. It might be too overwhelming.

Very, very nice. I love the composition, the effect, and the delicacy.
Also, reminds me far more of certain Trickster myths than contemporary fiction. Not that Watership down wasn't good, mind...or that the subliminal information might not have been there...but it's not what my brain picks up on.
