Description
On one of my off days I began experimenting with cut-out figures and collage. Here is my first little experiment.Yes yes, Watership Down. Good book. This doesn't really have anything to do with it, though it might have informed me subliminally. It was an unfortunate coincidence.

This didn't so much remind me of Watership Down at first, surprisingly. Though I could defiantly see how it may have been your unintentional intent.
For me though, it touched closer to home. My rabbit, Tadpole, died in January of 2009 very suddenly and violently. (A stray dog got a hold of her while she was spending the morning in her outside pen :/ )
The circle created by the rabbits, one living and one dead/a spirit, just reached inside me and plucked that little chord in me to remind me of Tadpole and how much I miss her. The living one even looks a bit like it is falling, and the spirit/dead one is rising up. I'm probably seeing far too deeply into your happy experiment, but it is a beautiful thing. It reminds me of sad things, but somehow it is still a very pleasant reminder, and doesn't leave me feeling very sad at all.

Loving the markings on the brown one. It would make an excellent piece by itself and if you use just the markings an even better tribal work.

I love the effect of the pop out rabbits The back ground is pretty and it makes the figures in the front really stand out. Plus, the way the rabbits are rabbits but different in how each is created is a nice contrast
Great Job!!!

I'm reading that book right now. Loooove it. <3 The movie is totally scarring though, don't watch it.
This is beautiful. <3 I love using salt when water coloring, makes such an interesting effect. I hope you try more of these. I might want to give it a shot myself.

Really? I think it scarred me for life. I was a little kid when I saw it, and afterwards I could never use my pink night light because it reminded me of the field of blood. x'D
I just don't like how it deviated from the book so badly. And was so violent. I watched it this last spring again to see if it still creeped me out. IT DOES. The last scene made me nauseous. xC

I admire this kind of collaging best, where you create all what goes into the picture rather than taking from other sources. That way I feel it is all belonging specifically to the artist.

It hadn't even occurred to me to take images from an outside source. Except, perhaps, some ancient text of some kind. (in future pieces, not this one)

It really doesn't look like the Watership Down style from the cartoon at all, but the concept is familiar to it. Not unfortunate at all I think, it's a beautiful piece. I love the design of the spirit and the poses.

Makes me think less of Watership Down and more of the Pagan Hare. Take a look at it and you'll see what I mean:
[link]
Although I'm used to seeing them in this set up:
[link]
They're used in a similar way to the 3 moons, with the same "Maiden, Mother, Crone" meaning. The one on the right is very much the sort of thing I've seen at a thousand festivals and the one on the left is also seen at a fair few. This is a brilliant picture depicting life and death, good and bad, light and dark etc. It all looks really natural and very well done. It looks like the sort of greetings cards my mum goes crazy over

Very cool! I have never seen this before. I will have to research it more in depth I think.
And you are right; I never thought of it, but it does look like it would make a good greeting card.

Lol. It does remind me of Watership Down. It's a super great piece on it's own however. The swirly white lines around the brown rabbit add a really cool contrast and yet it still works very harmoniously with the white rabbit. Great work!

Hmm... Well at first glance it does seem Watership Down0-esque, but if you think about it, the picture and the book aren't really realted
While there is the Black Rabbit of Inle that I guess could match up with the rabbit on the right, El'ahrairah was a brown rabbit with a shining tail... and it couldn't be Frith 'cause Frith is often represented by the sun
Oh welll, great drawing none-the-less <3

Wow, I LOVE the. . .curvelinear-ness (check out that slick art lingo). . .of your linework, and the color palette. Had someone presented the bunnies, I would not have said, "Indigo background!" but it looks fantastic! It actually highlights the bronzed colors of the one rabbit without loosing them, like a more coordinated scheme would have done. I love the smile on the spirit bunny. :] And the way you nailed foreshortening and perspective on them both without shading, but especially with just stylized swirls on the spirit one.

Lavaboat Up! ... Yeah, just had to be different.
The cut-out makes for a very nice contrast between the subjects and the background. Kind of wonder what it would look like with a full scene. Like drawing the characters on a completely separate sheet of paper and putting them onto a different background.
