Description Heh heh, well, this picca idea popped into my head and I decided to go for it even though I've never really drawn a mech before, let alone colored one. It was an... educational experience... There are a couple of technical concerns that I'll now lament, for one, Starscream is a huge mech and so the water drops should be much smaller--indistingishable, really. But I wanted freaking water drops so I said, "screw it. I'll just make them bigger than they really are supposed to be." So, you must suspend disbelief a little here.
"What is this all about?" you may be wondering. Well, I was thinking about Transformers and how they appear to have very human attributes despite their mechanical bodies and I thought it a cruel, unusual thing on the behalf of their creators to give them the capability of feeling emotional hurt. I'm not very knowledgable about Cybertronian history, so it could very well be that they developed them entirely on their own, but I still find it upsetting, the idea of a living soul locked away in a cage of metal. Kind of make you wonder if there weren't a few who just couldn't take it all and released their sparks onto oblivion. From what I can tell, most of the 'bots seem just fine with it, but what if one started to feel differently, confined in such a cold, hard shell? I'm sure none of the others would understand...
Well, I picked out Starscream for this, one, because he's my fav, and two, because it seems like he's just the angstiest transformer of them all. It's the Armada version of him because I'm more well versed with that having no access to G1. *ducks thrown objects* I know nobody likes it and everyone thinks it's stupid and a herasy, but c'mon! That's what makes it fun to watch!

This idea concept is really interesting if you think about it. I remember watching this as a kid and thinking something of the similar lines, but when i told my mom about it she was all like its just a show honey robots cant feel. LOL it makes me laugh now

The coloring is really well done but I think you made his face a little to pale for the Armada Starscream, unless you were trying more for the g1 Starscream, then its fine.

Oh, wow. So expressive. I love it!

Yeah, Armada might be heresy to some. But I personally love it and its my favorite verse simply because there's so much potential for deep thinking. I love delving into Starscream's mind, simply because he's such a contradictory character. Sometimes cruel, sometimes compassionate...a decepticon's upbringing with a decidedly un-decepticon conscious.

I'll readily admit I'm an Armada Starscream fangirl and that you're pic just made me squeal at its accurate portrayal of him. Conflicted but also proud.

(and don't worry about the water. Rain drops have a habit of accumulating and making bigger puddles so your pic is as accurate as can be. At least in my mind...I'm not an artist so I couldn't really say one way or the other...^.^)

I reaaally love this image, Armada is my favorite Starscream. hahaha XD And the thought process behind this one is really intriguing, I always love indulging in those thought processes myself. But on the thought of them feeling confinsed in metal bodies, I think that perhaps for them, they would maybe say the same thing about US being trapped in biological bodies. *shrugs* To them, being a mechanical creature would seem like the only natural way to be, and being human would feel like being trapped and cut off from the rest of their world, because they wouldn't have the strength to protect their comrades, defend themselves, or flee when they needed to. They wouldn't have the constant electronic internals, like their radio communications systems and other various things, to keep them connected to their friends, and without their enhanced sensors, they'd probably feel deaf, blind, numb, and just shut off from the world. Plus, with their inferior biological brains, they'd feel like they were in a constant haze, unable to think straight at all.

But then, that's just my thoughts on it. ^_^ One of the fun things about this fandom is it's open to so many different interperitations. It's such a broad subject, it could be any number of things, and it's open to everyone's own personal interperitation.

Interesting idea. This must be during episode 24 (?) where Starscream (with the Star Saber) was abandoned on the battlefield. It was raining, I recall. And to answer your question...

In the G1 cartoon, the Transformers were created by aliens called Quintessons. The Quintessons endowed their creations with "a simulated intelligence," but not emotions. But later, and I quote ... "What the Quintessons failed to grasp was that their robots had developed emotions, that they knew and felt the different between freedom and slavery, and that oversight sealed their (the Quintessons' fate."

So to answer your question (kinda): yes, the Transformers did develop emotions on their own. Don't worry about the R. U. R. allusion. The Quintessons were cruel and lazy (and butt-ugly besides), and kinda deserved it.

wow, and I thought that Transformers were created by Primus and that the Quintessons have enslaved them O.o......the Transformers history is a bit...confusing >_>

You can thank multiple writing crews and production staffs for that. In G1, the TF's were created by the Quintessons. In the new "United Continuity" (featured in such media as the games 'War for Cybertron' and 'Fall of Cybertron,' as well as the novels 'Exodus,' 'Exiles,' and 'Retribution') the Tf's were created by Primus. If it sounds confusing, that's because it IS confusing.

Ah. You know how it is - different media, different continuities. There was no Primus in the G1 cartoon.

This is what I get for not browsing more deeply into your gallery. Here I've started DA-watching you, and I had no idea you liked Transformers! I hadn't seen it since I was little untill recently (when my pookie poped in the old movie to get psyced for the new one (which RULED)) and now I am binging like a starved, bot crazed looney. I love giant robots. Your Starscreem is awsome, so I will favorite him, even if I don't like or support the Decepticons! ^_^ Just cuz yer awsome! ^_^

Interesting ideas it been a long time since I was really into it. but i remember a eps when Seabrease is on another world where the race there uses a magic pool to Transfor because the Automation that Deceptcons were using to explote the planet because they didn't have souls and were destroyed when touching the pool. Seabreeze takes a chance and plunges in chaning to an organic form. I don't rememer what happen at the end other than he returned to his normal form through another trip the pool.

You have a interesting theory on the transformers and their more emotional side. And you can't get any better with starscream - he is such a complicted character, isn't he? He looks so sad in the pic too, I just want to hug him ^^

I absolutely love the pic - I am even more a Starscream fan now ^^

You are a very tactile person.
The capacity to have a sense of touch and use it to understand the world is a powerful human trait. This is esspecially true for some artists, as their sense of touch and balance is an integral part of their trade, as well as a part of the slightly different way they percieve the world as a whole when compared to the rest of us.
There are those that say the Transformers never had, and never needed, a tactile sense; as all of their parts were mechanical and replacable and thus did not need a sense of pain to warn them of danger. I know little of Transformers, but I loved them as a kid. And from the way they acted and felt, they way they could activley choose between reveling in the force and expression of conquest, or lamenting and mourning the loss of a peaceful home, I could tell that these were indead not robots that looked like people, but people that looked like robots. In that light, it is indeed a very cruel thing to deny them the ability to touch and expirience the world around them.
But then, I also have my own opinions about tears...
I feel they are a precious gift, whether from pain and sorrow, or from joy and peace. And they are one of the most important parts of simply being human. They way I saw it, the Transformers were very much people, and thus...

They could cry.

I was never as keen on the original Transformers as I was with Beast Wars (I grew up with BW, so ) but Starscream always intrigued me. Out of all the villains, he really seemed to be the most complex, emotionally- Megatron (circa Beast Machines) is probably a close second.

Nice job!
