Stoic and wise, Quillpatch is a voice of reason cats look to for guidance. He is known for being a skilled fighter, having come out of every battle hardly scathed. He attributes his skills to the Clanmates around him, and believes working as a team is the best way to tackle a problem. Unlike other cats who are candidates for deputy, Quillpatch is the only one with rationality and humility. He does not consider himself “the greatest fighter” or “the best warrior in VineClan”; he feels that he should do what is right, and that he doesn’t need to prove himself to anyone. He shows kindness to all cats, and doesn’t jump to conclusions. Rather, Quillpatch fights with words, but can fight with claws as well. A few words from him can change a cat, as it did with Heathertuft. He never asked her to share her experiences, only to give her comfort. He became close to her, and enjoyed her remarks. Quillpatch may have been quick to ask her to be his mate, but he hadn’t felt this for any other cat. He loves Heathertuft and her daughter Flashblaze deeply, maybe to a point of over protectiveness. At times, he can get very anxious that they may get hurt in battle or that he may lose them. Quillpatch may be wise, but he can feel vulnerable at what others are capable of. He’s seen some cruel cats, but also plenty of cats that are good-hearted. He feels he has to put on a brave face for the cats who need it, and sacrifices himself for them. It’s conflicting for him to think he can rely on others but that he is responsible for them as well. But Quillpatch knows that he can understand this, that maybe all cats are strong and weak at the same time. And it’s how you use it that defines yourself that makes Quillpatch stand out from his Clanmates.
