Description
This is my submission for the ArtSpace contest over at CGSociety! It was especially created for the contest although I could have submitted some older work of mine as well.
This was clearly one of the more time-consuming artworks that I did. Put in countless hours (I really don’t know how many) working on and off over several days until I was happy.
It’s all done in Photoshop, no modelling.
I did myself a luxurious favor and bought the Cintiq 12WX!
This was one of my first works using the tablet. It’s a pretty fancy device, but mostly unnnecessary luxury if you ask me...
I love using the ruler on it, painting the buildings like that was fun! And it finally comes close to how I work on paper when creating techy stuff!
Other than that, I really purchased it for doing more hand-drawn animation. It’s easier and more accurate to work on the screen like you would using a peg bar.
For speedpainting though, I prefer using it as a normal tablet, because your hand gets in the way and you lose the overview of your work.
Lastly, here are some close up shots at 75 % of this painting:

Nice job dude, I really like it. Never thought about using a ruler on my 12wx... that's actually a pretty sweet idea. I just use the line tool, but that's sweet. Doesn't scratch the screen at all?

hehe, i build my own custom ruler with a soft edge so I don't ruin the pen. Also I padded it a little on the underside and bought a protection sheet for my cintiq
The linetool I only use for perspective grids. I hate the overly clean look... :/

great job!!! looks awesome! My only grip is that it kinda feels like the biggest structure shading feels a bit off as the left tower is slightly brighter then the one on the right.

yeah, thanks for the crit, you're right about that. I could prolly have pushed the shading there a little bit!

I love the lighting, and those swooping buildings are incredible.
The Cintiq12WX- have you ever had a jitter issue when trying to draw a thin straight line away from the corners?

Wow.. reminds me of your other masterpiece: "Distraction Point" -- the best artwork on deviantART. Please make more of that kind. I love it.

Well, at least it's the artwork that made me become interested in DeviantART in the first place!
I go crazy for such urban structures.

Wow, this is really good. Of course, that's to be expected from you, you have such a wonderful gallery.
You list this as ' Paintings and airbrushing' but the detail is so precise. I was wondering what dimensions you work at and what technique you use. (It would be interesting to see work in progress shots for your stuff! )
