Every time I see a piece with historic planes in it I'm reminded of the wonderful work done back in the day for Crimson Skies.
The manuals alone with their in-universe magazine fronts and backs with little ads and messages like "to the Kestrel pilot over Kansas: Thanks for holding off when I hit the silk".

This one goes into the same direction with the pilots during WWI seeing their fights as much as a gentlemanly duel with certain unwritten rules as they were part of the war effort of their home country...
