Description Excuse the personal rant:
I wonder what makes someone an artist. What about a craftsperson? Personally, for me it's all about skill, skill, skill.
This pic is a good example of that. Extreme emphasis on technique and pretty brushstrokes. Very clean but without emotion and somewhat cold.
When I paint something I don't really care about content, only about how I paint it. But everyone knows that technique will never surpass imagination. People appreciate substance over technique all the time.
When I look at other people's art, I always appreciate skill and technique above content. And I know it's very superficial. People see poorly executed paintings of fluffy cute things or heartbreaking scenes and go nuts over them. No one ever goes nuts over a really skilled drawing of a tree ._. (I know what I will paint next)

But hey, I am only turning 30 next year so there is still time to be childish

Growing up I was amazed at how Bob Ross turned a white canvas into a well detailed image in front of my eyes in a matter of minutes.  As a non artist I primarily look at the finished product without thinking about the process that goes into it.  I think for most people to appreciate technique they would have to see it being done.  I wish I could paint/draw better because I have a lot of ideas in my head, but can't get them out the way I see them.

Enjoy your last days being your 20s because after that you really start getting old.

Cannot believe you are 30, looks like you've been drawing for 30 years alone, your art is amazing and if you posted a tree it would be the first tree I've ever favorited if it looks as good as this and that I have no doubt.

so du baum.

So.

"But everyone knows that technique will never surpass imagination."

F*** thought I was alone...

And you are turning 30?! God knows what you will be like at 40!

I so agree sir, and I like this because it catches the eye and the colours are stunning. The composure is excellent too!

Skill and Imagination are great bedfellows, but the latter makes the former

Well said

Make a technically awesome illustration of a fluffy thing or heart breaking scene with a really skillful rendering of a tree thrown in.

I find that in large part non-artists do not understand what it means to be an artist. We see things they don't know to look for. People attach price tags and emotions to creative works without understanding how the creator can feel their work is priceless and indefinable. Even other artists can be so blinded by the need to entertain others that they dismiss certain aspects of creativity that some artists wholly embrace. Thus, one of the essential skills every artist is forced to develop is the ability to tolerate others' opinions.
People are different, and all we can do is accept it.

I don't know... I definitely see the technical skill in your works, but to me, there is also something very intense about your use of contrast (both in terms of light and dark and in terms of relative saturation) that gives me a strong feeling of emotional depth as well... I really identify and feel attracted to the atmosphere of desolation, desperation, horror and solitude I get from many of your paintings, even when there are no people in them at all.

WOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH Bro. Art is ART. What I mean is that it doesn't have to have a meaning. "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" as Sigmud Freud said. I mean sure its nice to have a piece that has some deep meaning behind it. Other times its just nice to have something that looks good. What I enjoy in your artwork, or artwork in general is not the deeper meaning, but the intricate time and effort put into it. Hell I LOVE SPEED PAINTS. I mean sure a piece that has emotion in it is heart wrenching, but to me, a piece that expresses the deeper parts of the artist's abilities is much more fascinating. Stick to your guns bro. Do art for yourself and not for the world.

(Sorry I had to rant as well)

People can be childish and fun-loving when they are 150 <.< the notion of "growing up" only means facing real world challenges, it says nothing about having to become a curmudgeon X3.

I would say that people are used to looking at fine quality art these days.. like they are overdosed with it [ Not that I blame them ]

It's common for them to see a beautiful painting and, due to that, rarely anyone will be thinking about how did someone actually paint it
Nah.. they will simply go over any painting that is not dropping into their field of interest [ Like i.e. fluffy cats, broken heart drama or fan art of just released games/series/movies etc ]

Basically, they will always be looking for something that "follows" their current life

I've noticed a different trend, where people appreciate skill above all else, even the meaning and the content... However, I don't know which version would be worse.
