Description I could have uploaded this a looot earlier, just fogot about it.
It's a commissioned robot concept. The clients are building a
styrofoam model from it with a few artistic liberties. See some progress shots here:

(sorry, forum is in German)

They also gonna release a DVD on how the model was built.

Fun, eh?

And it looks like the prototype is finished! I checked the bottom of the page. Legs and all!

No, not finished so far. That's just the rough form I guess. Smoothing and detailling remains as well as coloring!

Prototype! The kind that could come out, but doesn't!

Hideyoshi In reply to Nekoren [2007-07-26 20:30:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah right, if you put it that way!
All I know is that they gonna make it all look nicely fleshed out and painted!

Nekoren In reply to Hideyoshi [2007-07-26 23:14:17 +0000 UTC]

And they're gonna give you the first one? Free of charge?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hideyoshi In reply to Nekoren [2007-07-27 17:52:27 +0000 UTC]

No, it will be a single model only, no mass production. Unfortunately...

lunarsis [2007-07-15 03:00:50 +0000 UTC]

While your line work is pretty tight, I think it is taking away from the end product because of how intense the black is. In contrast to your other stuff, this looks slightly under-rendered. Don't get me wrong, I am a large admirer of your work, both here and on CA.org

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hideyoshi In reply to lunarsis [2007-07-19 16:41:53 +0000 UTC]

I surely understand! This was very loosely rendered only. I just wanted to keep the lineart on purpose, just as I do usually with industrial design...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lunarsis In reply to Hideyoshi [2007-07-24 21:58:04 +0000 UTC]

I understand. That's an approach that I see from time to time. I am an industrial design student myself, in Milwaukee. For conveying information, linework is a forbearer of sorts when it comes to showing it to other people.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hideyoshi In reply to lunarsis [2007-07-25 13:50:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I learnt a lot from Feng Zhu. He used to do marker renderings way back and they were a huge inspiration to me. That's where I got most of my ID techniques from I just love to separate styles between illustration and ID!
I am actually not studying ID you know...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lunarsis In reply to Hideyoshi [2007-08-01 16:37:07 +0000 UTC]

I should have figured. ID and TD have crossed into so many other careers that you can see the principles of them popping up in work all the time, but not nessacarily in students of them.

snarfevs [2007-07-15 02:50:02 +0000 UTC]

This would have been great in the last CA IDW. Looks really solid and professional. Though I think the perspective on the front blue grille bit on the 3/4s view is a little skew. Really nice though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hideyoshi In reply to snarfevs [2007-07-19 16:41:04 +0000 UTC]

thx for the crit, you are right about the slight offness on the grill!
Current IDW topic is so stupid, who wants to design a cocktail mixer?! :/
