Description
my entry for the 50th round of IDW.Didn't have much time, so I only did simple color fills. But this minimalistic coloring style is also kinda inspired by the works of Katsuhiro Otomo as displayed in his artbook 'Akira Club' which I recently bought. I can recommend it to everyone!
All done in Photoshop, no traditional inking etc.

cute insectoid look... i love it!
but... what type of maintenence can it perform?
His mantis-like arms cannot use tools and I don't see any tools integrated in chassis...

Kickass! Feels so insectoid, not just because of the mandibles or mantis claws, but also the forms used throughout the body. Great design!

yeah, thanks! had fun using the concept of a mantis for a bot!

Very nice! Love the concept in itself although its a bit creepy with the so insect like body, kinda freaky if the 'bots some day will do a revolution and slash us.
It doesn't look so movable, a bit clunky even, good work though! Looks really good

yeah? I thought this looks pretty agile actually. Well, thanks for the crit! I guess it's something about the head and torso area...?
always appreciate detailled comments/crits!

I believe it's the torso and head yeah... they look pretty heavy to swing around...
And you are most welcome!

This is excellent character development. The rough sketch, clean up and height comparison. Love it

ItΒ΄s really interesting how you sketched and what arosed from it. You already had a clear vision when you started to sketch. The colors remind me a bit on stealth colors, I think they fit really good.
Hope youΒ΄ll win!

yeah, the rough sketch was pretty useful in finding the exact design shapes for the final. Interestingly, this went pretty quick and straight forward. Doesn't happen too often with industrial design which can be pretty hard to do...

I like the coloring style to it. Yes, it is simple but then it has a gritty look to it, thus adding to the overall "maintenance" feel to the robot. The design is pretty cool looking, and I do enjoy the praying mantis look to it.
