It's not exactly clear why he suddenly was able to move and pull those tubes out of his own throat. He didn't expect himself to be able to fool them.

When a scientist comes up to check, he didn't expect himself to be able to break that glass enclosure, knocking the guy down and out. He pulled off the rest of the plugs and tubes on himself as he vomited out the remnant liquids in his system.

Glass skitters under his feet as he stumbles forward to get away from the tube where he was held... and then he realizes with horror that he can't breathe. Air. He's out of the tube, in a place with air, right? Then why can't he...

Gasping in vain, he drops to his knees. Before he collapses to the darkness, he glimpses a dark shadow walk before him...
