Yeah, it isn't Ariel, as cool as she is. It's the little mermaid from the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, which is MUCH sadder than the Disney version, as she doesn't get the prince, nearly kills him, and then she herself dies... yeah...Anyways, here she is all sad and stuff.
As per usual, no references, so things could be better.
And yay! I'm finally posting art! It's only been, what, a month?

i love this one, but i prefer the other story when her body becomes foam, but she becomes sort of like an angel or that, so that she can earn her soul.

In the original story she doesn't kill the prince. She is going to die because her deadline time is over to be in the earth instead of see, but her sisters sold their hair to the witch so they give her a magic knife to kill prince and his wife. She refuses to do it, because she is not a murderer, and then she should die becoming sea foam (as all mermaids do when they die according the story), but instead she becomes a sea breeze as a "prize" for her good action (not that it seems any better in my opinion, but that's what Andersen tale says).

That's awesome...but yeah, that Hans guy was morbid. LOL I remember when I was little, The Little Mermaid (Disney version) had just come out and my Mom told my Dad to go buy it for me. Well, he came back with The Little Mermaid (the Hans version) and I was so upset. And my Mom was pissed because I cried about not having the right movie. LOL So I ended up watching it anyway and couldn't believe that she killed herself (of course, I didn't really know that that's what she did until later) but still! WTF!?!?! Sorry for the long comment.

In the version I read, she saw the prince was happy with the new girl, and rather than kill him, she jumped off the boat, but instead of turning to seafoam when she died like most mermaids, she got a spirit. I felt a little ripped off because it was like a pseudo happy ending. I think he wanted us to be happy that she got a spirit. Anyways Great Shading and awesome facial expression going on here. ooh does she have webbed hands? That owns!

The original story of the Little Mermaid is WAY better than the corny-happy-ending thing that Disney made (sorry. I'm not abig Disney fan) and it was about time somebody drawed the realistic, heart-breaking, beautiful Ariel 
Btw, I really love her facial expression, it reminds me of how sad it made me when she turned into sea-foam in the end...boo
You should draw the Beast sometime, you know, the original story where he dies instead of turning into some hot rich male-Barbie Prince (

Her hair is so lovely--the few shells in it are a great addition. Her tail is better than anything Disney did ^_^ And her face has a whole sad, longing expression which just fits in perfectly with the Andersen version: she never manages to get exactly what she wants. Definitely a beautiful drawing.

She didn't kill him in the original story, she was supposed to with the deal her sistes had made with the witch so she wouldnt have to die, but she didn't kill him and she died but then she was given an immortal soul and crap, so it was kinda happy.

You're right. I remembered it wrong. When I was little I had this Hans Christian Andersen book, and remembered her with a knife over his bed and how the knife was bloodied, thought he was killed, but I looked up the original story and read it after I read your comment. It's still rather sad, in my opinion.

I like that you didn't give her those damn seashells. I also like that her hair is a curly tangled mess, because if she lives in the ocean, yeah RIGHT is it gonna be all smooth and flowy like Ariel's. Original stories are always better than the Disney ones. I like it when everyone dies in the end.
