Program: Easy Paint Tool SAI- - - - - - - - - -
Hello and welcome to my first tutorial >A<
This file is around 4MB in size and covers the way I color the skin, face, cloth and hair. I also added screencaps of some of my settings for the tools I used.
Tools used are the following:
Pen, Brush, Marker, Water, Blur. Bucket, Airbrush, Eraser
My English is not very good so I might have mistakes here and there. I don't know how to do layouts for tutorials like this; I just imitated the ones I've seen before. But nonetheless I hope I'm able to explain things good enough.
I did this last night and continued it this afternoon, took me some time to make but somehow I find it quite fun XD
Character is: Saitou Hajime
Anyway this is one of my most used coloring process.
Feel free to experiment on your own, you might come up with a better/easier/more comfortable way of coloring in SAI.

this was mighty helpful, but i have trouble selecting the hair to color it with my base color. it takes too long to color by hand ;A; help!

Hello I'm back XD Please check this out: [link] You can try out the Wand/Select/Deselect tool for filling up the hair of your drawings instead of outlining. I really hope this can help you, please give me a feedback if it works just fine or if you find it confusing. Thanks!

thanks, but i already know how to use the want and select tools. even with those, i'm still too impatient and lazy with them >.> i have a lot of open spaces and it's annoying to search for them all...lol. i guess i'll just have to deal with it. thanks for making a whole tutorial about it, though. i'm kinda embarassed ><

No problem ^^ The only thing I could suggest right now is make sure your lines connect properly so you won't have to deal with broken lines and open spaces when you select the whole area ;A; Sorry I couldn't come up with better ideas XD Good luck \o/

oh that's gonna be hard ;_; i'm not a paths tool fan, but it's useful for connecting lines. the only drawback is that i can't efficiently edit my lines. do you know the keyboard shortcut to edit (distort) lines?

When you say edit your lines, are these lines made on the vector layer? Or are these lines made by the Pen tool on a normal layer? Sorry I didn't get it clearly ;A;

it's the linework layer. i think that's vector? you can draw a line and then bend it on the layer. i thought you couldnt edit lines on a normal layer?

thanks! i already figured it out.
on vector layer i use stabilizer and pen, and if i want to distort the line, i hold shift.
but interesting...i can use a mouse too! ^^ great ideas. the pressure tool can be annoying though >.> and time-consuming. i'd rather use stabilizer.

You're right~ With mouse... we work way way slower ;A; But it only shows that though we don't have tablets (if ever), we can still produce digital drawings ^^ Yaaii for SAI, I really find it convenient XD
