oh huzzah, a piece that has absolutely nothing to do with the artist training grounds for once! oh, wondrous day! no one thought it'd ever come!so, I love pipsqueak. I know people are torn over him, some loathe him and some like him, but I think he's great; I LOVE his design, I LOVE his voice, I love everything about him. I was one of the only people who loved the CMC back when they were first around, and now most people do, so I hope if pips becomes a recurring character (and I dearly hope he does) that others will warm up to him as well.
so, I just had to draw him. and since he's a pirate, well... why not?
i was so incredibly please with the way the pony itself looked in this piece I was tempted to just forego any type of text or background, but i went ahead and did it anyway. part of me wants to upload him alone sometime, somewhere, though.

I think that's a good position to be in with this show and its characters at large. Everyone seems to love everything or (insert specific character) way too much, or loathes it/them. I'm sadly very guilty of the former.

I think I experienced exactly what you're talking about with Flutters. In the first episode she was immediately my favorite pony, but throughout Season 1 I just found myself worn out of her somehow (I think she was the victim of the most "silly writing abuse" like the whole stare thing and a lot of other weird quirks and random things taking advantage of the fact that she's "the cute one") and liked just about every other pony more as the episodes went on. But then, I really loved her more realistic non-deus-ex "tough side" in Best Night Ever, and she's just been great in every single episode of Season 2. That and some just beyond lovely fanart I've seen of her recently have shifted her way up, vying against Pinkie for my favorite.
As for Pips, he's just too new for me to have feelings that deep and complicated for yet. I think he's just adorable and I love his unique design to death, and I really hope some older male pony uses the 'feminine snout' look like him, as I think that's the cutest thing ever. Also the coat, and his voice, and yeah.
