Oh DA, you and your silly title restrictions...SO! ~vantn said he needed a little help using GIMP so I decided to make a new tutorial... seeing as I ALSO changed my coloring style... what, four days after I submitted the tutorial? xD
Anyway, if you have any questions about GIMP, Ask or note me, and I'll try to help you.

Hmmm...well, the best way is to practice over and over and over.

I eventually have developed my own style, but it's good to start your roots and work up from it.
For quads...XD;;; Sorry, not gonna be much help. I need to try them again sometime

I need help!
I get all the steps - but my layers, channels, panels box doesn't show up! The one where you have to "multiply"
I think I accidentally closed it one time, and it never showed up again. What can I do to make it show up??

Hmmm... I don't know EXACTLY what you mean, but here are some solutions to try:
1) Go up to Tools, select Toolbox.
2) Go to Windows, select a 'Dockable Dialog' called Layers.
3) Check the Toolbox. It might be there. xD
Trust me, I used to have that problem too (when I had the older GIMP)

I'm still not sure how you adjust it so that that the colors show up only inside the lines and you also weren't very clear on how to shade.

Put the coloring on a different layer underneath the lines. That way you don't have to worry about the coloring hitting the lineart. Make sure the lineart layer is set to Multiply.
And for shading, every person has a slightly different style. My way is to lock the layer with the coloring and use a special brush I made, soft so that it looks better.

The lughting is off. The glow indicates that the sun is behind them, yet there faces are lit up, and their backs are shaded.
