I like this...sounds like you went through a very complex process to get it...but worth it when it turns out so well!

Well... more or less... the truth, I like this software a little more day by day. The only, is that is sometimes exasperating by the time it takes to finish the job. But I don't let Apophysis, cause it has its good points too.

Incendia images are so beautifully crisp and detailed! I've seen some lovely work done with Apo, too. I've tried it on my mac, but the mac version doesn't run the scripts that have been developed for Windows. I love Oxidizer, which doesn't require me to apply scripts, so I'm not complaining. It allows me to select two different genomes that are in my collection and place them in a separate window to breed them together in various ways. That's fun, if time consuming, and it results in some really lovely images, and I can then further manipulate the settings before rendering. Through many trial and errors I am beginning to understand what characteristics breed well together, but I love the surprises... As to the length of time to render, it's 5 to 30 minutes for smaller images (ie. 550 x 400). But when I do large images (2560 x 1600) it can take most of the day. It's fun that there are so many different programs we can use to create fractals.

Completely agree with you. I have been experimenting with several programs, including some commercial versions (as XenoDream) and at las I'm still staying with Apophysis and Incendia cause I feel they are not only more comfortable but its results are spectacular. The rendering time is a real problem,
but... On the other hand I have been considering switching to Mac, but still I hesitate. I think what stops me is that I'm used PC software too many time and I think that maybe I'll have problems with the other operating system. I don't doubt for a moment about the better points of Mac over PC, but ... I'll see.

I have used both platforms, and I find the Mac much more intuitive and easier to use. There's always a learning curve, though, when you change...and not all the software you are familiar with runs on Mac. Perhaps you will be more comfortable running those programs on the Windows side of the Mac, though. Be forewarned that when you do that, things tend to run more slowly than when you are using the Mac side of the platform. I don't have to use virus protection as long as I stay on the Mac side because viruses tend to be developed for Windows machines. If I used the Windows side I'd have to install virus protection which slows things down. As more people use Macs, though, this will undoubtedly change, sadly. I talked with someone using Incendia the other day and they reported no more than a couple of hours to render a fractal. Perhaps you should look into why it takes so long on your machine. Perhaps something else is running in the background or your cache size needs to be increased?
Or perhaps you are adjusting to the length of time and it allows you more balance in your life... It's so easy to get caught up in fractal making to the point that hours have gone by with me sitting at the computer when I could have spent some of that time outdoors...which I also love to do...
Good for my character, though, to have to struggle with that...

I think you're right ... I was in the similar situation when I was testing Linux. It is also an excellent platform ... a little more difficult to handle because some of their particular characteristics , but overpowering and configurable. Nor is attacked by viruses and most of its programs are free ... the problem ended up being the lack of compatibility with some types of files and on some pages and Internet applications, so I finally quit after more than a year of use.
And yes ... you are also right again when you say that we spend a lot of attention over time we devote to sitting in front of the computer monitor instead of leading us in front of the monitor of the real life around us and that, at least it's really what really counts.

One is full experience and one is the reflection...but also the connection with others of similar interests who live at great distances from each other is very meaningful. Happy to have met you, for instance...

Were you using the Thirdspace hyperspace gate as an influence or something else from that show?
Either way I like the end result.

Exactly. As I mentioned in my comment I took the idea of the Babylon 5 series, where they used to move through the Galaxy.
