Raven wasn't always abused as a kid, but when money started getting hard for them, her parents turned to alcohol so they didn't have to deal with the stress. Raven often locked herself in her room only to come out for food and the bathroom.
Fast forward some amount of years and Raven came into her intermediate teen years, and the abuse from her parents had gotten worse. She found she couldn't control the way she was feeling and she snuck in on her parents and attacked. Let's just say, it was messy.
Raven met Raffles when he was investigating the case, she managed to keep it a secret- but she did eventually tell him. She spilled it all out though did not go to prison as Raffles had taken a liking to her.
She is also very good with illusions
