Description

This is just how Donkey Kong Junior Math fits into my timeline.

Also, a little fun fact: since Asari is based on the pink DKJr. that appears only in this game, his birthday is actually the same day as the game's release (December 12).

My original idea behind it is that DK Sr. just kind of wanted to get the hard part of learning math out of the way early for them. It's not quite easy for either of them, Asari because he's still very baby and Junior because he needs a bit of a visual representation to understand, but DK Sr.'s not really all that worried about it because both his kids are still very smart.

Asari doesn't sleep the whole lesson, by the way. He stays awake for the part where his father teaches them counting. Once the flash cards come out, that's about when he hits his limit and conks out, which is why DK Sr. doesn't seem all that concerned about him napping here. It's also why Inari isn't the one teaching them math, as she'd try to make sure he stayed awake through it, and honestly neither of them would like to deal with a toddler who's fourth nap of the day was interrupted. (He's not sick, he just really likes food and eating more than a certain amount always makes him sleepy.)

I've said what my original idea behind the story for this piece was, but between doing the sketch and coloring it, I came up with a slightly different idea, which is that their parents are teaching them not just math but different subjects early on. They've both taken on two different ones (DK Sr. took math and history while Inari took reading and writing) but have been known to switch out on occasions. (They also do science when it's convenient, but who's teaching it depends on what's happening.) Math is the most prevalent within the timeline because it takes the longest to teach both of them.

Being kids, of course, they'd much rather be doing something else.
