Description The Commonwealth of Intermarium is a federation of states in Central and Eastern Europe in the HISTRUIT world. The federation of five major ethnic groups living together, with a population of over 100 million, and with economic and diplomatic status as a regional power in the eastern half of Europe. Maintaining equality between the different ethnic groups is a theme of paramount importance to the country, and one of its policies to this end is the establishment of French as the common official language.

The history of Intermarium begins with the alliance between Poland and Ukraine in the first half of the 20th century.Józef Piłsudski, who led the Polish insurgency in the Great European War at the beginning of the 20th century, promoted the Międzymorze concept based on a multi-ethnic idea known as the Jagiellonianism, and formed an alliance with Symon Petliura in Ukraine to counter the expanding Bolshevik power. The war between Poland and the Soviets was so bad that for a time the front line was retreated to Warsaw, but victory was seized in a historic counterattack known as the Miracle of the Vistula River, and the first Intermarium was founded with the backing of the Western powers, led by France.

However, this loose federation of four constituent states was interfered with by the nationalist countries, led by the German Reich, and collapsed on the grounds of rising nationalism in the run-up to the Great War. Later, when the nationalist-sceptic 'great powers' won the Great War, a second Intermarium was formed by adding ceded territories from Czechoslovakia, with which a union agreement had been concluded during the period of the government-in-exile, and from the defeated nationalist 'rebellious powers' Germany and Romania. However, the second Intermarium was later turned into a satellite state by the Soviets through unfair elections, and its people suffered a history of hardship. Under Soviet rule, Intermarium became a constituent state of the East, but the decline of the Soviets in the 1980s led to the outbreak of the Eastern European Revolution and the re-democratisation of the country. Today, Intermarium is a member of the liberal democratic European Confederation (EC) and cooperates with the international community as a bulwark of democracy in Europe and a regional power that is part of the European Cultural Area.

The regional divisions of the Intermarium comprise 14 dominions, which were established when the Intermarium was reconstituted after the Great War. These subdivided states prevent the hegemony of certain ethnic groups, while balancing the various ethnic groups by establishing ethnically neutral states in areas where there are ethnic disputes over belonging.

The capital of the Intermarium Union, Polésieville, was a man-made city built during the Soviet satellite state, and in the centre of the city was a 300m high Stalinist-style joint government building with a huge statue of Lenin on top, which was blown up during the Eastern European Revolution and renovated into a style combines Stalinist-style  low-rise with modern high-rise. The blowing up of the giant Lenin statue is the historical equivalent of the fall of the Berlin Wall in the world of HISTRUIT.

In terms of foreign relations, it has generally friendly relations with EC Member States, and particularly strong ties with which it has deep historical ties, and the Intermarium is a member of the Francophonie Community. It also has close relations with other liberal democratic states, such as the United Kingdom, where the Polish and Czechoslovakian governments-in-exile were located, and the United States, which was the model for the federal system of the Intermarium. At the same time, it has serious historical and political conflicts with neighbouring Soviet Union, which poses a serious security crisis.

Intermarium also faces a number of internal political problems, including growing ethnocentrism in the Polish and Ukrainian regions, economic disparities in the country, known as the East-West problem, a population exodus due to migratory flows to Western European countries for work, and conflicts in religious views between Catholics in the West and Orthodox Churches in the East. The current government has proposed solutions to these problems by strengthening federal and presidential powers in national politics.

Economically, economic growth due to increased domestic demand has continued even during the global recession, and there is a lot of positive news, with the manufacturing sector also showing signs of activity due to the entry of European and Chinese capital.

In recent years, Intermarium has also started on the road to becoming a soft power state in terms of culture, attracting attention for its many tourism resources and its strength in sports such as winter sports and football.
