Behavior
Usually very timid and secretive, and quite wary of interaction with humans. They do not seem to mind the presence of most Elves, however, but are still more likely to flee than approach. Extremely protective of their young. Known to be unable to survive in cold climates or if not exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Chicks resemble that of eaglets, so that perhaps they might be mistaken for them by the hunter's eye. Eggs also resemble that of some common raptors, but are extremely warm to the touch.

Description
Once every 100 years around the time of the summer solstice, a mating pair of phoenixes rise from the ashes of an area of Edda. The two seek each other out from the moment of their birth, as their sole purpose in their short life is to produce a single, or quite rarely, two eggs. Seeing a phoenix in one's lifetime is said to be a great blessing as their time on the world is limited. Once a chick is born, it is doomed to live out its life alone until its own death where it once again returns to the ashes of Edda. Their blood is said to hold untold healing properties, and have been known to be hunted down for this reason.
