A tribute and birthday piece for someone dear.
On March 3rd, 2016, Bristlebrush (also known as Blueberserker) passed away and left our world too soon. For those of you who follow me, you may already be familiar with his work. He was an amazing, prolific artist who was so talented in many areas. I know for me, I was immediately drawn to his unique style, artistic versatility, and character designs.
Once acquainted, Bristlebrush was funny, kind, and always full of wit. He was loyal to his friends and was also a mean cook. I had the fortune of getting to know him well for the past six years and we did everything together.
Bristlebrush was more than just my best friend, he was my mentor, gamer buddy, fellow movie critic, and more. These past few months have been incredibly difficult for me, but in this time of grief I wanted to do something he would have loved; something not sad but a celebration of his creativity and life. I know he would also not want mourning nor attention, but it pains me to see so many things left unfinished.
Whether you are a complete stranger or perhaps a fan, please go visit his works online. He had many dreams, but I refuse to let that go with him. I hope to continue drawing his ideas, characters, and stories in the future and someday get him the recognition he deserved. You can visit his works in the following sites:

Just finding out today that he passed away, I am sorry for your loss.
Its really heartbreaking, just feels like yesterday talking to him on msn and emails >.< We did drift apart since then.
The last I heard from him was that he was sick.... but I recall him getting sick a lot, guess it makes a lot more sense to me now...

That really hurts. He was one of my biggest inspirations growing up. You still are too, in many ways. I need to grow stronger and try to honor his art by making mine better. I have no excuse but to better myself.

blueberserker was a central artistic influence for me growing up and to hear he's gone is...shocking, to say the least. he was brilliant and incredibly talented

I wish I would have talked to him more when I had the chance. We pvped in WoW from time to time (I can't recall if we were ever grouped with you or not) and I know he was closer to a friend of mine than I ever got to be.
I've actually known about his death for quite a while as well, but was told to keep it quiet, etc... same reasoning you gave. It was really out of the blue for me, though. I remember stumbling upon his art a decade ago and really admiring it, never thought I would someday talk to him. Never thought he'd go out this way either. It's... weird.
I'm kind of glad you said something about it. I guess it's just nice to almost have 'permission' to say my own bit on it, but it seems like you needed it the most of all. I know he didn't want people to be sad or draw too much attention to it, but I'm sure he'd want you to do whatever you needed to make it a little bit easier.

Hey, I remember you and those bgs together. It was a lot of fun, and strangely enough I was just thinking about the times I did Challenge Modes with him the other night. If you don't mind me asking, who was your friend? I know bb had many other acquaintances I didn't personally get a chance to meet, but anyone who cared about him are welcomed to message me.
It's been really hard these past few months, and while I know some were quick to commemorate him I was so slow because I needed the time. Even then, I feel bad for anyone who knew bb and wish they knew sooner. For those I did know personally, I did reach out and tell them the news. Its only now I think I've felt comfortable enough to share, but also do it in a way I think he would've liked. Not just a mournful post, but a tribute drawing he'd enjoy. It gives me some comfort to see people write and express their thoughts now, because the last thing I'd want is for people to forget him.
Thank you for writing and remembering bb. I know if he could see all the people who will miss him, he'd be touched. Thank you also for the last bit... sometimes I really wish I could hear him or know what he would've wanted.

Krhainos was the friend I was talking about. I think you told him (if I'm recalling correctly) and then he told me. We both decided then and there that we'd keep him on our b.net and AIM lists just as our way of honouring him and keeping him around in some way. I also have the conbadge he did for me still hanging up on my board.
I think you did a good job of getting the idea of a tribute across, though. Actually, I forgot to fav this so I'll do that now.

Oh my god. I had no I idea he was that sick. Last time I talked to him he said he was going for tests, that was in January. We talked a lot for years it's terrible to hear this news. Blue was an awesome dude. I wish I had gotten the chance to meet him in person.

Words can't even begin to describe how I felt when I found out... I thought there was more time left. I remember bb telling me how often you guys talked and for how long, so please feel free to message me privately if you want to talk more. He was an absolute amazing person to hang out with, and I know he really cared about his friends.
I want to apologize that it took me so long to make any kind of 'official' announcement to others who knew him. It's been extremely difficult, but I also know bb wouldn't want people to be sad. I hope everyone who knew and enjoyed his works can keep him living in spirit through ourselves.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Hodori. I didn't know BB, but his art was important to me in ways that I can't even begin to verbalize.

Thank you... I tried to draw something he would have liked. He had such unique and memorable characters, so I thought it'd be good to draw as many as I could (for this pic at least). I intend to do more in the future.
