i would go for the axe honestly, sounds more practical, also i've heard Katanas break "easily" relatively speaking if you don't know how to take care of them, but yeah one can't underestimate the value of melee weapons during a zombie apocalypse

Axes are much more versatile to, You can't break down a locked door or gather fire wood with a KatanaΒ

or cut the chains/lock around something, still beggars can't be choosers so if no axe nor hammer is around and you're being chased by the undead a katana looks damn nice xD
