Description Had another go at rendering yesterday's fractal. Still a bit noisy but nowhere near as bad as yesterday, and postwork was minimal. Rendered at 10k.Β

*gasps*Β  I thought this was a painting. What is fractal art? I think this looks stunning!

Thank you very much!

Fractal art is art made using some sort of program that generates fractals, ie. patterns where there is a repeating pattern at every scale. A famous example is the Mandelbrot set (here's a zoomable version. It's super neat!)

Using various software, it's possible to generate your own fractals at home. This works by witchcraft. Well, it might as well be.

Basically, you have a 'flame', and on this flame there are many variables you can alter. Adding more 'flames' and playing with the parameters there can add complexity to the fractal. The mathematics happens behind the scenes, so to speak.Β

There's a few programs out there that can do this. The one I use is Apophysis 7x, which is free. Lots of information on that program can be found on ChaosFissure 's page. There's also Chaotica, which is similar (as far as I can tell from the very little I have tinkered with it), and has more rendering capabilities I think, and Mandelbulb, which seems to be the popular choice for three-dimensional fractals.

If you ever want to have a go, I'd start with the resources linked on ChaosFissure 's page. . Β It's quite daunting to get into at first, but with a little perseverance you'll be able to make beautiful designs.

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to type it all out and explain it to me. I'm really interested in fractal art now, i'll check out the links you sent me, i can already tell that i really like this kind of art, it's extremely detailed and the patterns are mesmerizing. I love detailed stuff, i just quickly checked the first website you sent me and i love how the patterns keep emerging no matter how much you zoom in, it feel's like a galaxy full of patterns and wherever you look there is something to look at or something new to pop up.

Not a problem I didn't even know fractal art was a thing until I joined da, but there's so much potential! Just recently I made one that would make a great background for an art Nouveau style piece, so I think I might get on that once I've completed my current painting. Another thing I like about fractal art is that it's pretty quick to make. Of course you can spend hours tinkering, but sometimes it takes hardly any time at all before you find something worth rendering.

I'm so glad i stumbled upon this because i'm actually considering to learn how to use fractal art as well now. Currently, i'm exploring digital art and i'm trying to learn how to paint with photoshop. I think that making pattern designs with the use of fractal art might make my paintings more interesting and beautiful in the future if i succeed to combine both artforms succesfully.
Oh yeah that is cool, that it can be a fast process. I'll continue making some digital paintings for now and once i'm more comfortable with the digital platform i'll try to shift to fractal art to experiment. First, i have to clean my computer from unnecessary files and programms to create space and then i'll download the software you suggested. I can't wait! Β

Come to the dark side...we have pretty patterns.

Hey! I think you're using quite alot of gamma in there which makes it harder to smooth out
Also been wondering how there's those empty holes.. Post edit ramble of hypertile spherical size in middle.
I see that with hypertile p5/q5Β configuration, small spherical size will create smaller center than holes around it.
In those cases sphere should be duplicated 5 times and position it at right place, which is pain and we want to avoid it.
That's why it is recommended (I recommend it now!) that center is bigger, that way whatever is in there will duplicate
nicely into smaller ones.
Here's quick stash example of it
Post-post-edit: Good job otherwise!

Ah, the gamma. I didn't think to check that!Β

I'll have a little tinker...I'm determined to get this thing to work out! Thank you for your advice

And thanks!Β

It's fantastic how the patterns seem to repeat themselves outside of the pic and beyond the point that the eye can reach!
