This painting is wonderfully painted! The attention to detail on toriel's and asgore's faces really portrays a sense of happiness and fulness of lowercase love! my only critique is that chara's expression and overall body kind of gives the feeling that you were almost done with it, decided you couldn't draw humans very realistically today, and stopped, and this really damaged the impact f this great painting, which would have been one of the most fantastic pieces otherwise! The originality of the painting is nice, due to the drawing styles and painting technique, wich overrides the fact of a familiar focus.

Thanks for the critique, I-Heart-Derpy!

I understand your concern about Frisk/Chara's appearance, however I can assure you this was a purely stylistic choice. As such, it has a bit more depth to it than eye candy, which is part of its essence as a tribute to Toby Fox's work. Given Frisk/Chara is such an ambiguous character that is also meant to represent the player, it seems counteractive to that concept to put detail where it doesn't necessarily belong. In other words, it's like that lack of detail is your own space to fill in. You're the player, so that's your part of the canvas, whether you see it as Frisk happily united with family, or Chara being menacing. I never expressly stated whether Frisk/Chara is actually Frisk or Chara in this picture, but people have been filling in spaces without me needing to.

My first impression of this was one of "Ooooh this is going to look like an old photo!" and then I actually click it to find Chara's design and facial expression amusing and immersion breaking. The immersion breaking factor is actually not a bad thing since softening up seriousness with lighthearted silliness is one of the things that makes Undertale great. If I were to make a suggestion, do another one of these except redraw Chara in the same style as the others and give him an expression that shows the same level of disgust. Otherwise, this is a darling picture.

I'm glad you picked up on all of that! Thanks for writing!

I've never really felt like I could give Frisk/Chara much detail in my work just due to the ambiguity of the character as well as the fact that he/she is basically a stand-in for the player, and as such is kind of the outsider of the family unit. Having that difference but still being loved the same I thought kind of speaks to Toriel's character. But that's just me getting too involved with my fandoms, lol.

I didn't want it to be purely just an emotional picture though, since I've seen so many already that are just focused on the impassioned high, so some humor might make a good addition. Glad it worked!

I find it interesting that you take it as being Chara: I kind of worked at it with the idea that it could be either one, but more leaning towards Frisk (meant it to be more of a derpy, happy face, as opposed to a look of disgust, but I can totally see it now). But again, I guess that's what the ambiguity is for.

No current plans on stopping Undertale art, so I will keep that all in mind!

It's kinda hard to go for ambiguity between Chara and Frisk when Asriel is there and Chara only has one stripe on their shirt. Gender is easier to hide though. What you did here is actually a testament to skill and I always admire artists more when they use simplicity to achieve multiple perspectives, on top of the desired perspective.

Yeah I see what you mean. Now it just looks menacing, lol.

Well thank you very much - I appreciate it!
