A very skillfull painting, the red cloth gives the space between the figure and the roses movement and help to lead the eye around the picture, while the soft lighting and treatment of the figure impart a mood of peace. I especialy like the way her dark clothing merges with the shadow of the table to create an overall darker tone to the lower half of the painting, lending more attention to the figure and roses in the upper half.

one of the things i really like about this piece is how the woman has such a classic beauty and is posed to enhance that. if not for the bit of her back showing and the style of her pants i would think this was a period piece instead of a modern portrait. the picture frame on the wall behind her is perhaps my favorite part of this painting. it just looks like such a natural part of the room. it also adds some interest in an otherwise blank space and uses some nice brown against the otherwise drab wall color. the pages of the book really look worn and used and the texture for the blankets tassles shows through nicely. it's a really nice picture. you mention it's a commercial piece. what was it used for pray tell?

What a bennifit for an artist to have someone so intreging to use in pieces. I have done a series of ballet using my daughter from when I'd go to her pactises. I had the OK from the instructor to photos...without getting in the way of coarse.

My god beautiful. Very good old world charm with modern subject. I perhaps appreciate most the skin, I have attempted portraits many a time, and time after time after time they end up with either dead grey skin or clay like and too saturated. Your's is marvalously alive and goes well with the lighting which looks to be given only by window and natural midday sunlight.
