Description
Hi! How are you? I hope you're fine! In these day's I'm in the mood of write some bios, and so I wanted to update the one of the Mario's version of my main OC, Giulia.
Even if she's my dearest one, it was very difficult to write a proper bio that suited both what I wanted to do with her and the Mario's world, but I hope you like it! I was about to semplify her a lot, and this is unusual for the majority of my characters...
But when I upload the bio of Rococo counterpart of her, I will use more details!
Byee!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Information
Complete Name: Giulia Anna Claudia Merlani
Age: 16
Birthday: July, 15
Height: 5’ 74’’/ 1,75 m
Residence: she lives in a palace built in neoclassical style, near Mushroom Town, in the Mushroom Kingdom
Occupation: However her main occupation is being a marquise (her family has the feud of Roseville), she wants to be a writer and an intellectual, and works hardly to publish her first book
Colour Affinity: Mostly with cold colours, such as violet and light blue
Alignment: Neutral Good
Would-be voice actress: Shelby Lindley youtu.be/7jKUUwECQQU?t=226
Theme Song: Debussy-Reverie
Family
Mother
Marianna Gambini Merlani: an active and eccentric noblewoman of Italian origins (as her husband) who loves gala festivities and going to adventure. Sociable woman, she talks very easily with everyone and often discovers interesting things for her husband by gossiping.
She loves dearly her husband, who married against her parents’ wishes, and can be very, very jealous of him, and adores her daughter spoiling her and being overprotective towards her. Even if she isn’t a cultured woman, and so she doesn’t understand what her husband and daughter truly adore, follows Giulia on her adventures, mostly to know new people. She also forces her daughter to do sports, even if she doesn’t enjoy them, to keep her in good health
Father
Ernesto Merlani, the current Marquis, is a quiet and calm man, who’s a well-known intellectual, writer and philosopher in the Mario World. Actually he works between Princess Peach’s library and, with some collaborators, he’s doing an audit for the Encyclopaedia of his world. Sometimes Giulia helps him contributing with some voices, or going to adventure, with the help of her mother, to learn more about some cultures. He loves dearly and cares both on the wife and the daughter, and sometimes is worried about sending them to adventure, even if they don’t risk anything dangerous, and is an affectionate father to Giulia, who took from him the passion of culture and literature, and genuinely admires and respects him, wanting to be like him.
Friends and Acquaintances
Flavio: He is an old magikoopa, naturalized as an habitant of Mushroom Kingdom whose job is to be a preceptor and an helper before to Ernesto, when he was young and now to his daughter. Actually he helps Giulia studying and contributes a lot to revise with her father the Mario World’s Encyclopaedia
Adelaide: Giulia’s first friend, a little duchess apparently spoiled and arrogant, but that inside this appearance, can be a nice person
Desdemona: A little shy boo that the marquise met on her adventures, who lives in one of the various abandoned houses located in the kingdom, they have more of distance friendship. They communicate to each other via letters.
Likes
Culture: Her main passion. Giulia loves knowing everything new and interesting, and always studies hard to be an intellectual woman in the future. Her favourite branches of knowledge, despite she appreciates them all, are the philosophy and the literature.
Cute dresses and ribbons: Despite being mainly a studious person, the marquise truly appreciates dressing well, and so enjoys being feminine, and the ribbons she puts often in her clothes are the proof of that. A bit trivia: Giulia doesn't have true blue eyes, which true color is dark brown, she uses contacts, for being more similar to other humans in the Mario world
Chocolate: Often the marquise can show to have fairly sophisticated taste in fact of food, even if she likes to try food of other ethnicities, but if there is something eatable that can always send her in ecstasy is the chocolate, that eats every day.
Writing: This is the activity that Giulia enjoys most, the thing that can relax her, and can cheer her up mostly, and this is her speciality, too. But this is a double edging sword: despite she passes most part of her day trying to write her debut book, but she’s never happy with that.
Dislikes
Sports: Despite participating to sport events, by obligation of her mother, Giulia is not too fond to these activities, which she defines as a waste of a time on that she could develop more her culture. But anyway the only exception are karts, which enjoys driving. She also can't swim
Ignorance: One of Giulia’s main goals, after publishing her book, is to sensitize the Mushroom Kingdom’s habitants of their reign’s culture, or at least, to give a basic instruction to everyone, and can’t stand viewing some of them having one that resent the ridiculous
Disorder: One of the things that annoys most the young noblewoman, is to find her home messed up, and dirty, so she doesn’t like to work under these conditions. This bother applies to her appearance too.
Drawing: The marquise, even if she loves studying and admiring art masterpieces, doesn’t like drawing, at all. Even if she doesn’t define it as a waste of time, unlike sports, she doesn’t enjoy this because she’s completely denied for it, and seeing her drawings compared to the ones of other princesses or noblewomen, frustrates her.
Personality
Apparently, Giulia’s personality is portrayed as sweet and kind. She’s a girl with a really good vivacity of thought, and she’s appreciated for this by her friends. Often you may hear her using a very complex language, that doesn’t hesitate to use obsolete terms, that most of people don’t understand. She’s such a dreamer, and her main wish is to publish a book written all by herself which subject always changes, but under this good image, the marquise is an insecure girl, or with a proper terms, a paranoid one, a person whose goal is the perfection, and sometimes can act prissy to others, when she’s under pressure, even if she doesn’t want to do it on purpose. She just want to be a good and well-known writer like her father, and her main fear is to fail in her intent, and in future to be a bad marquise to her feud, the small land of Roseville, placed on the South-East of Mushroom Kingdom, that visits often with her family, during the year.
When her father sends her and the mother to adventure, she mostly enjoys them, and likes to know about the place she’s visiting, and she loves eating the typical dishes, even if she falls into the vice of gluttony.
(For the structure of the bio, I was inspired from CrystalCrowned 's Chelise. It was so perfect! *-* And I'm sorry if I didn't asked you permission first, and if you want I will change the structure C: )

Nope! She's mostly travelling along her mother in the Mushroom Kingdom to help her father to do a revision of the outdated Mushroom world's encyclopedia. But maybe there are some occasions where she could get kidnapped (not by Bowser, but by other characters) when I deepen more her c:

What a very thorough and interesting biography Giulia has! I love to see well rounded and developed characters, and your Marquise certainly has much ado with the story of who she is and who she wants to become!
I also really like how you have developed her parents! There's a lot to be said about how our parents have an impact on who we are, and Giulia's parents make perfect sense in regards to where Giulia gets her interests and hobbies from!
Seriously, this is a great, comprehensive bio! I'd love to see you write a story for her if you aren't already, because you are very creative!
Thanks for taking your time to translate this into English! Smart girls are definitely the best girls!

Thank you for the comment! I was very pleased reading it and I'm really glad you like her and her development, that as I wrote, it was a bit struggling, but I'm glad that someone here in the comments liked, and understood quite good it
You've made a good point about the parents. Usually they're dead or not seen too much in OCs or in canon characters' stories, and I wanted to deepen them as good as I can, and reentering in the canon, and I'm happy you liked them.
For the backstory, in these days I had one in mind, but first I have to think better about the development of that, so for the moment I will not publish it, but when I will (exactly I don't know when, but surely not soon), I will update this deviation c:.
And thank you again for this comment c:

No problem! And as well, I appreciate a great comment in return!
Yes, I think Giulia is a very realistic and balanced character, especially when it can be easy for many people to overpower an OC in a universe like Mario's! And I think your English is quite good! I could understand every sentence and knew exactly what you meant even if a few words were switched around. I can tell that you care about writing and speaking properly from the words you chose to get your message across, and I can tell that you're a very intelligent girl--much like Giulia. C:
Indeed! Including Giulia's parents as a big part of her life makes plenty of sense, especially since the concept of family is very important in the lives of nobility and royalty! And her parents are very realistic, too. What I like most about them is that you didn't make them just for the sake of Giulia, but they're their own people and not just "The OC's parents". They love their daughter, but they have their own lives, too. They all complement one another well!
Creating a great story takes time (I have been working on mine for almost 3 years!), but you seem to be well on your way to making a great one, and I look forward to reading more of it! Continue your fine progress and hope that we can all develop our OCs in this group! >w<

And thanks for this reply too, I love reading these longs and articulated ones! Since when I've created my Giulia, I wanted to make her unique, expecially on the character and the family, so reading these lines, as I said in the other reply, made my days! And yes, writing in another language is difficult, and I would read again what I wrote, and fix my few errors! I'd like that my descriptions are written well, so thanks again for the reply!
And I liked how you described her family! You've managed to understand very well what I've had on my head and on what I've wrote! I just want to draw them more and deepen more, along with her friends, in the next drawings (If I have enough time/desire/inspiration to do that :"D ).
And I'm surprised about reading that in your story you putted 3 years! I can see how you care in your ones too, and I understand very well how's creating and developing every single character, and making them credible and appropriate with the enviroment, and if you created it too, it's even more difficult, so I wish you a good luck about it.
In these days I prioritize mostly on another story of mine, that I've started about one year ago (my main one, with this one and another), whose protagonist is always Giulia, but I've putted her in a more historical and realistic context, and even if I'm working on that for about one year, she's almost done (I have to focus more on the other characters and the ongoing story), and if always I have time, I will post the complete bio along this!
And thanks again for writing this for me! I would like to write even more than I do, on the other drawings of yours and of the other artists, but I'm usually of a person few words! I will try to spend more on my comments!

Hey, it's awesome that you aren't intimidated by a lot of text! A lot of people I know don't like to write or type, so you're one of the few I know who doesn't feel that way! And don't feel discouraged about your English. I'd say you're every bit as fluent as a lot of native English speakers, and you write so much better than the ones whose first (and only) language is English but don't care to learn or speak it properly. If you'd ever like some help proofreading any of your OCs' biographies or other work, I'd be happy to look it over and give you my opinion. I'm no English major, but I try to be as correct as possible when it comes to writing!
I know what you mean with struggling to find time to write/draw more complex scenes! They usually involve drawing backgrounds and specific expressions and moods that we don't always have time for with how busy we are. And when we do have time, deciding how we're going to do it is the hard part (at least it is for me)! Do you feel that way? But, I believe we'll get our chance to do that, especially in this group next year! With the affection you have for your work, I look forward to the awesome stuff that you will create! I told the founders about a great New Year's event idea that I have for this group, so if they decide to do it, I hope you will like it and might inspire you to create even more! :3
Haha, yes! Three years, and I've only written three chapters of my story! (But I don't write every day, hehe~). Still, a year is a good amount of time to work on a story, too! A lot of it depends on how big of a story you want! Mario has so many games with so many locations (Mario is in a new location every game), and making up our own locations on top of that, there are so many possibilities! That's what made me want to write a Mario story in the first place! My Mario story is really long, like a literature novel, and I'm writing it like how F. Scott Fitzgerald writes his books, since I idolize his work!
It's just as rewarding, if not more, to write your own, original story, too! I have thought about writing my own alien/sci-fi story, but it's still in its infancy and I don't know much about it. What's Giulia's historical story about? I read about you mentioning that her family is feuding with another family, Roseville, and this sounds very interesting to me! Is this concept also in her original story?
I'm glad I could get back to you, though, since you appreciate what I have to write! Again, it's rare to meet people who like to read today! I don't feel like you're too quiet on DeviantArt--you don't speak too much or too little, I think! But all the same, take your time writing back comments and focus as much as you need to on your stories and artwork! I understand when life gets in the way, and I'm always glad to hear from you whenever you get the chance!

Don’t worry, usually I’m not intimated by a long wall of text, so reading long texts/comments for me is perfectly fine, even if the only exception is when people write with a terrible grammar, but this isn’t the case. I know a lot of people that doesn’t enjoy reading, too, but thankfully I have some friends who like it, and I’m happy to share my thoughts with them
And yes, drawing backgrounds can be difficult, and usually I don’t have so much time for dedicating to them properly, so I don’t draw them so much. Another thing that is very complex to me is finding some decent pose to draw my character, but in the last times I started to use more references, and they’re more useful than I thought!
By the way, I’m curious about your Mario story! Even if you write a chapter every year, thing that I find perfectly understandable (a good amount of famous writers, like Manzoni had a really long time to publish their works, and usually they’re masterpieces!), I’m still curious, is that one that it can be found in her bio?
By the way, the sci-fi subjects can be cool too, even personally I enjoy less this genre to other ones, but I’m sure that it can be an interesting story too! I’ve heard talking about Fitzgerald, and I saw his books in the bookshop, but I’m not sure if one day I will buy one of his book, because firstly I have to read a lot of book that I bought in these months and still are in the shelf, and because I had heard some conflicting opinions by some friends that read some of his works before: some praised him, others hated him, and so I’m a bit confused about him, but The Great Gatsby seems interesting, so I don’t know)
By the way, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I don’t think to reveal too much about the story that I’m writing, even if I would like to share the two main characters’ profiles on Deviantart, but generally I can say that the main subject that can be involved is the growth of the characters who participated in a cultural salon setted in 18th century Milan, an historical context not studied very much, even if these days there was some mentions of it at school, but I didn’t start to write this story, for the moment I prefer working on the plot, the atmospheres, the characters, and how I develop the themes here. It’s a long work, but I’m sure when I have in mind everything, I will write at least decently.
And about the feuding of the family the land of Roseville, I’m bit confused, unless I was expressed baldly, I don’t think to have mentioned it, but anyway I’m sorry :c

Yeah, backgrounds are one thing that ends up intimidating me, too, because of the sheer amount of time it takes! I would just love to paint the various locations in my story, but I feel like it's more important to introduce the characters and the story first, so painting the settings gets ignored. And poses can be especially challenging, especially from memory or when we don't know how to draw the pose at all. So, references are absolutely vital for every artist, not only for the sake for a more dynamic portrait, but for the sake of anatomy, too! No matter how good or professional an artist becomes, everyone can always stand to improve on art and draw from reference! What kinds of references do you like to use?
I've been working on my story since 2014, but I've also been lazy about writing it at times and just write down notes instead (I also have another story that I am working on very seriously, so I find that I bounce back and forth between the two!). But yes, Senna's biography is a very abridged version of what I wrote for her story! For the sake of brevity, I omitted a lot of detail just to tell everyone how she became a princess in the first place. I still might post her story on dA, but it is kind of slow paced, like a novel, so I hope people will read it!
In short, the story is about the Awazon Island's ascent to expanding their territory and becoming a powerful empire, and then, the empire falls apart, and Senna has to discover a dark force that's responsible for it. Senna is one of four main characters in the story--kind of like how Dorothy is the main character of the Wizard of Oz, but the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion are just as important as she is! I am going to be drawing them very soon and introducing them to the group!
Senna first meets a Shy Guy named Guiek, who is Chief/King Muuhe's strongest warrior and accompanies Senna on her journeys as her royal bodyguard. Then she meets a Poison Mushroom named Julien T. Galaréne; he sells firearms and ammunition at Rogueport. Lastly, she meets a spoiled and fashionable Boo woman named Lady Bhujali (like Boo-jolly). She's Guiek's ex-girlfriend who thinks that Senna is Guiek's new girlfriend, even though she isn't!
Yep, people feel the same about Fitzgerald's writing here in the US, too, especially since The Great Gatsby was required reading for me in High School, and most of the students resented having to read the whole book. But it's actually on this website to read for free if and whenever you're interested! I hope that you'll be able to access this link, because it says some countries have specific copyright laws. It's a bit slow in the beginning, but every word is symbolic and relevant to the plot. To me at least, he writes the way that a movie plays. I can only hope to write so beautifully someday. =w=
I understand about wanting to keep the details of your story private, that's fine! A story about a cultural salon sounds fascinating! What genre do you think the story will be? I will try not to ask any more questions after that one, and if you'd prefer not to answer, please feel comfortable not to, and I apologize.
I appreciate your modesty, though! I'm certain that you will find a way to make everything come together and will write it wonderfully, especially since you are so dedicated to your studies in historical context! I think that writing stories that are based on history are some of the hardest to write, since you're trying to recreate a period of time in which you did not live. I tried to write a story many years ago about the Russian Gulag during Stalin's reign, but I felt too intimidated to continue. It's very tough! All the same, I wish you good luck and that you are satisfied with your story! When you complete it, I will love to read it through. C:
I perhaps read a part of your bio wrong; in Giulia's basic information next to her occupation, you mentioned that her family has the feud of Roseville in parentheses. A feud means two families who are hostile towards one another, so that's how I interpreted it! What did you mean, my dear? Sorry for the confusion!
