Lol I get that too sometimes, I just think maybe it's best to try and be polite about it. I tend to be straightforward but I always try to stay on a "nice level"; eh unless I'm really bothered I might be a little more rash about it and not watch what I say ( I don't know if I've been rude to you in any way throughout these posts, I try not to be so if I was offensive in any way, I do apologize, I look to debate but in an intelligent and sane manner. I don't want to demean anyone in the process )
A sad but common way companies tend to be tricky in their ways I've noticed was making huge false claims about their products, release them, only get the results of the surveys and actual product results a few months later once a bunch of people purchased them ( thinking they got a great deal and amazing product ), and then they get pulled off the shelves when people get up in arms because their products were falsely advertised and well, you can't get refunds most of the time for cosmetics ( espescially since by then, most people used them all up ). What you mentioned about cover ups tends to usually end up like the one I just described however to cover the "dirt" they play it off as there being a "surprise" bad ingredient inside that they're removing from all of the products.
And yeah, I don't know where you're from, but it's like that everywhere it seems for hospitals, we have a shortage of hospital workers and we manage to end up with some of the worse most highly uneducated and biased medical "proffessionals" in the field.

Well I sugarcoat nothing, nor do I tell people lies of praise. Call me cold but if I disagree with something I'm just going to say it because beating around and not getting to the point is not worth it. As an Artist -- and I told someone else this -- I know that telling people what they want will not help them or make them think, etc. However if I agree with or like something, sure, you're going to get some of the best praise from me, and you'll hear what you expected/wanted to hear. I am an art and literary critic. This is what I do.
And about those 'dirty acts' these companies do, it's everywhere, not just in the cosmetic department.
3:27 in the morning, and yes, I am tired as well. Take it easy and thanks for the conversations.

Oh lol I think maybe you might have mistaken what I meant to say then. Praising people when you don't mean it is just as hurtful. Sugarcoating still isn't a good option because it kind of comes off as babying the person anyways. I just think that maybe the metaphor you used was a tad too much, it seemed like you were trying to hurt or strike the person who did the makeup. If you want to be serious about critiquing, in my opinion, it might be best to be a bit more respectful about it because people don't tend to listen to rather rude remarks so the critique doesn't end up doing any good whether you gave in great suggestions or not ( I know your first comment was a critique now, you mentioned that earlier, it's just that for further comments/critiques, It might be best to avoid? Up to you, I know, just it might give you more base ( people disregard anyone as being a Troll instead yknow? ))
Thank you to you too, I'm glad to have civilized conversations with people who have strong opinions. It's nice. Also, thanks for bearing with my terrible writing lol French schools aren't known to have very good english classes lol

The further comments only came after people took me the wrong way, which was predictable and okay because I like to explain myself to people who don't understand, be it the reason why something was said, why something was done, etc. I don't consider myself ordinary (and so I've been told) so of course my views are highly questionable. Lo and behold, they've been questioned so far.
Now let's talk about this rudeness you speak of below:
βTo lie is the rudest act, but honesty that is certain with good intent is the bravest and most real thing of all.β Quote me. I take nothing back. Whatever I have said is what I meant, and even if it was a little exaggerated with the 'candleβs melting wax' reference it still got the message through either way. Your idea of rude and mine are two very different things. I am a writer and so it comes natural for me to say or write things that grab peopleβs attention a little more than some everyday used phrase to highlight my ideas or outlook on things.

I'm not about to type a whole bunch of text again to explain things over and over again, so give me some time while I pull out some links so you and anyone reading this can educate themselves a little better.
Harm people? I am only warning people. This talk has went above and beyond the talk of just make-up -- now it's about implants and other things people do to their bodies that will kill actually kill them, and you're about to see a whole bunch of evidence, etc. that talks about the backfires of ALL these things, including make-up if I may add. I'll even give you links about the backfires of tattoos. I'll link it all!

Yeah sure, that's cool. I've worked in the cosmetics industry and I have an esthetician license so these sort of things interest me yknow?
Well obviously you being agains't implants and such isn't going to harm anyone, i was talking more about how you felt about girls who chose to be unnatural in any way and not looking like real people ( girls are sensitive to that sort of stuff ). Please share links but please have them have reputable sources that are up to date ( and if it specifies the country of origin in wich it was made too, not all laws are the same for these industries ). I've seen too many ridiculous articles that look like they were pulled out of someone's ass or people who still talk about old practices ( like how they still put lead in makeup or use whale fat ( wich is illegal now anyways )). I've also worked in a Tattoo shop before as an apprentice so I've got some knowledge in that field as well, I'll agree that that shit is dangerous as hell if you have no idea what you're doing or you're being stupid about it.
heheh just had to put this here though [link] ( you sound like the "all the things" meme guy )
But uhm yeah, what did you mean by women buying more things than men? Is it possible you might have confused me with another commenter or something?
π: 0 β©: 2
VicariouSoul In reply to taconacho [2012-08-23 05:40:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh, and about the dates of the articles, since I know you may say something, that rarely matters as things that were said in these articles still applies, and the ones you think that don't? Well you're just going to have to do your own research. Unfortunately I cannot give you 2012 articles I see that come up every once in a while on my front page because I either disregard them or they get removed the next day from the front page. I can say that none of these articles from what I've seen are no more than 5 years old. They're not that outdated if at all really.
Anyway, that's just a little forewarning because I expect(ed) you to say something.

That's alright, I appreciate that you were able to find things that were still fairly recent. Some "natural" extremists ( if that makes sense lol? do these types of people have a "name" of some sort? ) tried to convert me to full natural by bringing me these articles that had banned cosmetics from before the 80's lol
π: 0 β©: 1
VicariouSoul In reply to taconacho [2012-08-23 05:49:19 +0000 UTC]
That's ridiculous giving you such articles. I only give what's fairly up-to-date, no more than 5 yrs old as said. Mind you, I know there's good in some of these things, but I'm sorry, often the bad outweighs the good, and it can either effect people slow or as they age, or very fast.
I'm not so much a 'natural extremist' (and no I don't know the name) I just weigh out common sense and what's stupid, and common sense pulls the scale down more times than what's stupid ever does, if ever.

Seriously >_>" I like my cosmetics because they've done more good for me than bad, it's up to the people who use them to decide whether they like them or not. And funnily enough, most of my customers are elderly people! They seem to enjoy cosmetics the most! They really enjoy taking care of themselves and they make smart choices with what they do with their skin. Some people just need a bit of help to find the right cosmetics, I guess that's where I come in . Skin irritations and rashes shouldn't happen and other bad side-effects, we want the best for our customers and we would lose our jobs if we didn't help them in the best way that we can.
Funny as I tend to see it as "common sense and people doing stupid/silly things". Although I'd never say this to a client up front, sometimes, it's their own stupidity that results in bad results. Body soap is meant for your body, not the face >_>" or how they banned retinol with a higher concentration that 4%, if your doctor tells you not to use it around your eyes, don't use on your eyes >_>" They're dumb if they wonder why they've got complications or skin irritations then.
So many things were banned or got bad stigma because of bad/stupid people. Compare it to how we have "warning hot" on every coffee mug in cafes and restaraunts lol.

Here is something for you to chew on. Your points are very valid when you're saying if you don't use too much of something you'll be OK more than not, BUT you have to consider that people don't think like that, that too much of anything is a bad thing. The people who make these products and whatnot know the majority of Mankind is careless and so therefore they get away with sticking something bad in them here and there (some go undetected for a long time) and meanwhile people are suffering or dying. But yes, a lot of it's due to people's stupid actions. Household bleach for example is quite safe for example so long as you don't swallow the it.
I'm not saying you're a part of all this or are a supporter of anything I'm saying, I'm just, you know, kind of throwing it all out there because it's not so far-fetched stuff. It's happening.

Of course, I realize that and know that. I just think maybe it's too much to be pointing fingers at the brands behind it. They're out for the money, all companies are like that, and most if they have low moral values, -will- go for the cheap way out, no matter the industry unfortunately. I just think it's best to educate and change the way we see these industries instead of pointing fingers and not trying to find solutions rather than completely shaming them.
Oh lol no trust me i get, I think we might be on a similar page for that. A lot of things in this industry really bother me and if i could, I would change it.

VicariouSoul In reply to taconacho [2012-08-23 06:51:08 +0000 UTC]
All that's necessary for evil to prevail is for the good man to say nothing. I have been more than educated about these industries and know people who have worked for and told me some things every-day people shouldn't know, which is why they stopped working for them. I was told just enough to turn my stomach, therefore, I have more than good reason to voice what I have to say, and most of it's not opinionated or theorized as you think.

taconacho In reply to VicariouSoul [2012-08-23 06:59:49 +0000 UTC]
I guess you could say there's more than one way to go about dealing with that issue in the industry then. You seem to be more on the boycotting side, I'm more trying to work from the inside to see if I can change how things are ( I know it's a long shot but I'm glad to say I was able to make a difference at least with the hygiene issues in my schoolyear, the new students and workers don't always understand the importance of it ). I know it's probably a little impossible to change the companies with these "values" but working with other cosmetics industry workers and estheticians, we might be able to inform people on what to do.

You sure don't sound professional so as to look like you know as much you're supposed to if you are an Esthetician. Sorry but that's my honest impression. O' wait, I'm sorry, they don't want you knowing certain things they won't teach you in school/college! There's another dark reality. All these people in the medical field, ETC. (numerous fields) don't even know what they're truly giving their patients and what it's doing to them. Instead they're blind dogs in the meat market. Some things are common sense and can be easier figured out and learned just by researching yourself, because a job done well will only be done right by yourself. Don't always believe what your so-called teachers have told you. A great many of them are quacks who don't know a damn thing. Oh, and always get a second opinion and consult more than one source for your information.
And no that point about the shopping thing was directed toward you for the same reason it was toward someone else. It was thrown at you to back up what I've been saying.

Hey, I've only had my license for a year that's normal lol! I try and it's hard for me to inform people in english ( I'm french and I took my course in french >_>" nearly every chemical or cosmetic seems to have a different name in different languages and it's confusing urrh ). And yeah I realize that maybe they might not give us all the information right, but most do and we actually do bring up debates like these in class, the teachers informed us that it's up to us to decide our stance on it. I had one dumb teacher who believed Ultraviolet lights could sterilize our tools ( wich is really silly, the ultraviolet boxes we owned were meant to store brushes in to avoid getting dust on them lol ). I always try and get more than one source if possible, if not then I will doubt it.
I guess a good example is parabens, I still haven't really gotten a firm stance on it. There's still not enough research on them to prove that they -do- in fact cause cancer however I feel more comfortable using a parabens wich have been used over 50 years ( and we haven't gotten too many complications with them ) than these new preservatives that haven't had any research done on them yet. If I can, I will stick to more natural preservatives like ascorbic acid and tocopherol ( vitamins ).
Ah. uhm okay, well I haven't really payed attention to any recent replies to you from other deviants so I wouldn't really know. It still confuses me though, I don't really understand the point of it? Everyone has their own different shopping habits no?

So then you'd rather me or people lie to you then, to hear only what you want? As an Artist that doesn't work very well, because if all you hear is what you want you're never going to improve! This applies to more things than one. You can believe or disbelieve what you want, but it was a metaphor. You cannot quote me that said in exact words, "This woman's face looks waxy, and if you put a lighter up to it IT WILL melt off!"
That's all you just putting words in my mouth I never said.
And I viewed the picture because [I did] think it a beautiful picture, but wanted to elaborate on what I think about women who wear make-up just like this, if not more, on a daily basis and how unattractiveness it really is.

From a guy's perspective it's more than enough make-up. There's a difference in a guy's definition of too much and a woman's, for example shopping, what is ever enough? A guy buys what he needs and gets out while women, often than not, buy an unnecessary excess of things so as to be hoarders of cloths, food, etc. I'm talking from much personal experience and not out of my rear here. It may not apply to all but it applies nonetheless.

"From a guy's perspective." Not all men are as myopic as you, please don't speak for all men. I get a lot of compliments from men on my makeup. SO not all men hate women in makeup. It is just you being a jerk. Stop making generalizations.

VicariouSoul In reply to LeechKeeper [2012-08-23 17:47:03 +0000 UTC]
I never said ALL men. Again -- and this is what everyone I've talked to so far is good at doing -- is taking everything I've said out of context. As I told everyone else quote me IF you can that I said, "Every man does not prefer or like make-up." I just said that by majority opinion/vote they don't care for it. It's not the very first thing they care for or look at when they see a woman. It's usually the eyes, breast area, or the backside, and if you don't know that by now I don't know what to tell you.
I'm not being a jerk; I speak nothing short of truths. Do you think I just pull all this out of my rear end? No. I'm a guy so I would know. Of course you've had men compliment your make-up, but after they did I BET YOU anything you've never asked a guy what they were truly looking at FIRST when they saw you, and often times they won't tell you either because they're too shy to or are liars.

Iv'e seen women cake on makeup in a disgusting manor which doesn't even look good. The only reason you say it's too much makeup is because of the eyes. If her eyes were bare then you wouldn't even notice it.

Men can just 'tell' because it's in them to, whether it's an amateur or professional who puts their make-up on or has it put on for them. I know too much when I see too much whether it's around the eyes or not. And of course there are men who can out shop women, but my valid point still stands, women do it more than men, in fact, do a lot of other things more than men (vice versa of course) and I've yet to see proof saying otherwise.

WOW...apparently there are a lot of hateful, insecure women on DeviantArt who are unable to take honest criticism. That's exactly what the site is for; it isn't here so that everyone can tell you how wonderful you are, it's here so others can share their opinions (both negative and positive) to help you grow as an artist, or to open your eyes to various ways of thinking. I apologize on behalf of my not-so-fairer sex for attacking you for simply stating your honest opinion (which MANY people share) that this type of makeup isn't appealing for an every-day look. This doesn't mean that it's "wrong" to like this kind of makeup, or that there aren't some people aren't into it...it simply means your opinion (like many others) is that it's overdone. People who take statements like that so personally have issues with insecurity. Everyone has to compliment them, or their world implodes. It's quite entertaining, actually
