The year is 1910, it has been 14 years since Madagascar was brutally annexed by France. They exiled the queen and keep successfully repressing every rebellion. Life is harsh for the Malagasy people.
Aia , a girl with exceptional spiritual tie-in picks up a unique disruption from far away, on the other side of the world. Yearning for her country's freedom, she is told by the spirits of her land that if she desires a future for her people, she needs to head to where the disruption occurred and play her part in the major event that is about to go down. So along with her musician husband, Tiona, she makes way for the Salt Islands...

Bio

Razafinandrasana, referred to as Tiona, is born in Antananarivo in 1882 to a family of music lovers. He is initiated to the valiha at a very young age and often follows his father’s band on tours across the island. He first meets Aia during one of them in the city of Mahajanga. He is 13 when the second war occurs: his father, uncles, cousins and numerous of his friends die in the war, rebellions and repressions of the following years. He starts a band and meets Aia again in Antananarivo in 1904.They get married four years later when she comes back from her studies. Unbeknownst to him, one of his already struggling younger sister, unable to handle the difficulties of the indigeneity regime will end up succumbing to the fatigue and die in 1910. Not long after this, Aia is tasked with going to the Salt Islands.

Personality

Tiona is an all-around nice, sociable person although, he also has a reserved side and doesn’t like making himself stand out. But he will try his best to stand up against injustice and inequality when it happens in front of him. He is very good with children and generally taking care of others. He loves music and how it can connect people and intimately convey emotions. More than music, he loves his country and its people, having seen most of it thanks to his tours.

He hates France and French people for what do in Madagascar. When frustrated, he will smoke or drink. Or both.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Tiona has a lot of hours of music playing behind him and has developed his own avant-gardiste style. He usually has a laid-back, patient attitude toward problems. He likes trying to come up with creative solutions. Physically, he is not very impressive. He is rather weak, really.

Tiona views himself as inapt to take action and make a difference when it really matters and he hates it. In one deep corner of his mind, he questions the meaning of his musical skills and fears he’s just really useless.
