I know i shouldnt be doodling around right now, but i had to get this image out of my head. its been lingering at the tip of my mind past whole month, an i say, enough is enough. so here you go... fresh off the oven.. i finshed it about 5 minutes ago.less than 2 hours, PS7, wacom intuos.
Tetsuwan Atom... Astroboy was my childhood friend. i grew up feeling his emotions. and when Osamu Tezuka passed away, my heart was broken, and i learned what lose for man kind meant.
Astro Boy is turning 30 years old next year! oh god he is way older than me.
if, astro boy ever become an updated new comic... i'm the guy. i must do it. no one else will be able to pull essense of astroboy, but me. im the only one who can do it. i bet my life on it. if someone else do astroboy remake... i must send my entire assassin army to them. its inevitable.
a tribute to Osamu Tezuka.

I really adore how you did this. Keeping with the basic shape of how Tezuka drew him and then adding so much more with the lighting.

no it will be sin if i even thought about changing anything from the way atom was concieved by Tezuka.
i only wish i could convey the resemblence in his expressions and feelings of the original character... even just remotely.

I grew up on astroboy too. I loved it. I never missed an episode. If someone played an episode for me today, I could probably remember most of it right away. And those little quizes at the end. Those were classic.

well, i dont remember alot of the stories, but i remember most of the key characters and the feelings i got from them.. especally Atom, and hes such a huge range of emotions. when i was a kid, i loved it for action and sci-fi elements of the story, but i realize now, it wasnt really about that. by painting this piece, i learned and realized afew things about astroboy, and whenever i get some time, i willl try painting an action sequence.

Yeah, i belive Darkhorse released old classic astro boy reprint.. i must put my hands on those. if you ve seen some of new comics nowadays.. pretty much everything is rerun.. recycle... franchised characters... makes me sick. makes me wanna throw up
if you ever see me doing astroboy-remake... just like some doing transformer, speed racer...... you should throw up too.

I really like this piece! You've taken a cartoon character (done usually with flat BW lineart) and made something really dramatic with it! The colors and lighting are excellent! And in only 2 hrs! That's awesome!
The only thing I can see as far as any adjustments is maybe smooth out the highlight area on the top of the head. Otherwise, fantastic! +fav!

Tezuka would be proud. I'm glad that peopel still remember Astro as much at say, Metropolis. Anyhow, seems it's retro day, I just sketched an old anime too, am coloring it now. Nice work and very sincerely done!
