Description

I was bullied every school year since Head Start/preschool. I know the pain and hopelessness it can cause. I was called white cheeks by the native american kids I went to Head Start/preschool with. Later on my pale skin, dark eyes and hair led to me being called a vampire and people shoving crucifixes in my face. Before I cut my hair it was big and frizzy and I was called a witch once. And those where just stuff about my appearance and even the "nicer" stuff that was said. I was once accused of having rabies for five years. Someone kicked a soccer ball at my head. It was an accident and they did apologize but I still heard other people laughing while I cried.

But I also know there's often more to the story. In high school I saw someone who would bully me getting teased and tormented themselves. I didn't see what was happening as revenge in any way. I saw what was the beginning of a horrible cycle that had led to this person becoming a bully themselves. Realizing this and that I could sympathize with someone I once thought to be horrible my life changed. I stood up for my bully against theirs and supported them. I took the side of the person who tormented me. Fast forward two years later and that person who would be so cruel and mean to me because someone who would come to me for support. This person is no longer my bully but my friend.

Lots of people will forget that bullies can be and often are victims themselves. They'll often lash out because they feel horrible and they believe that the only way they can feel better and justified is the make other feel horrible, so that they are not alone in how they feel. And I know this might not always work for every situation but ... People should not only show support for victims but also the bullies because often times they are victims too. And if your someone who is bullied don't give up hope. I promise you it will get better.

I even laugh now at what was said about me. Yes I do look a little like a vampire and the whole crucifix thing now is kind of funny too 'cause I'm a Christian. And even I think my hair before was pretty crazy looking. I actually cut it for reason unrelated to bullying. I just think I look closer to my actual age with short hair. Speaking of crazy I am. I think differently, as do most people who are Apies. I am different from every one else. And guess what? I love it! Before I would have hated who I am but now I want to be me because there is no one else like me and never will be.

I just felt compelled to tell you guys all this. If you got through this whole thing, thank you for your time love. Now go make yourself something with chocolate!
