My first time using gold leaf - it is so much fun! And itβs amazing how much the look of it changes in different light.

The gold leaf works especially well with those halo or nimbus type motifs I think, because of the subliminal association with Byzantine icons.Β Well, solar motif of course, duh.
Again with all teh eyes!Β I flashed on another mythical/mythological association with the many-eyes thing--Hera taking the hundred eyes from the slain giant Argus and immortalizing him in the peacock's tail feathers.Β That also seems like an apt parallel with the vigilant Sphinx.....HEY!Β I didn't even get that at first, it's both a Sphynx and a Sphinx!Β
