Thank you so much~~ <3 >///<
I don't use any thing special... I use precise v5 rolling boll pilot pen(for outlining), crayola twistables colored pencils, and sometimes colored sharpies... that's about it :3

I've just taken my first few steps into the world of colouring, so to be honest none of that makes any sense to me... I'll google it though
My biggest problem is the highlights. No matter how hard I try I always end up with too dark colours and too many layers.
I use a "Polycolor 24" set which I bought the other day.
Another thing I struggle with is the dark blacks, e.g. pupil and completely dark shadows.
Pardon if I ask to many stupid questions...Β I'm really impressed by your work, and especially the use of colours, which is just the style I want to learn myself, so I'm hoping for some insight
Cheers

Good to hear
You have a really nice light touch, and I love the highlights and the transparent, glossy effect, which I presume takes a lot of practice to get right.
But despite this you still have really crisp and defined colours and also defined both smooth and sharp shadows.
When go in with colours it always end up with either too little colour, or too much when trying to get a good gradient or blend... Which results in total loss of all control over highlights and details. Even darker details can't be defined because I have too thick a layer of colours and can't blend or draw into it with other colours
I hope you can gather some sense of the above and maybe give some advice on what I need to work on.
Thanks again

I'm going to try my best to help! Okay, so is it shading in general that your having a hard time with or is it a specific thing like hair...? If you want I can try making a tutorial (lol idk how it will come out... I have never made one... BUT i can try! \*U*/

That is very kind of you!
I have a lot to learn about everything... but at the moment I'm working on eyes. Both semi-realistic and manga.
If you look at the eye you commented on you'll see the colour gradient behind the white lines. What I was aiming for was an almost black outer part gradually brightening up to a green-blue colour and with some bright contrasts spiking out from the pupil.
I ended up with a very dark to a less dark green-ish colour and with no highlights or details...
I've done a lot of retouching and photo-manipulation in the past where I always go over and add the lights, shines and details at the very end. Not being able to do so really screws me over.
1. How do you get the vivid colours without pressing too much into the paper?
2. How do you get the nice gradients from dark to light colours? Do you use a lot of different colour shades or simply pencil pressure or strokes?
3. How the hell do you manage to get such smooth and crisp highlights, and in all the right places?
I'd love to learn more about the hair, which really stands out and make the drawings come alive, but I think I should take one thing at the time
Thanks again
