The real reason Wesker wanted Steve dead was not for a T-Veronica sample, but because Steve was making a play for his secret crush. Poor Wesker, too consumed with anger, ambition, and poor self-image stemming from his childhood need to wear leg braces a la Forrest Gump. He never told Claire how he felt, and opted instead to try to kill her brother.
