Description
A classic cat-aid picture...Its insane how many beautiful, adorably and lovely cats sit in a shelter day by day and wait to share their love. If you want to make yourself a favour: Adopt your cat from a shelter. You can find nearly all kinds of cats there, even pedigree cats! And if you REALLY want to do a good deed: Take a cat with low chances of a new home. Take the older ones, the black ones or those who have a little handicap. A kitten is adorable but in 6 month the kitten turn into a grown cat too and every cat starts as a little fluffball... There cats are so incredible thankful and full of love. I can just send an appeal from my heart to all of you and say it to your friends as well: Adopt a cat from a shelter. Do not support stupid breeding for money and neuter your cat

Lovely photograph that really sends a message, even without the title.
This kitty's huge, glassy eyes and little paws behind the cage really help add a moving mood to this image. On a personal level it really hit home with me; I love cats, and I had to put my old cat Wishes down in September of 2010, he was 16 years old and adopted from a shelter.
Last year I adopted a little black kitten who we named Onyx. At the shelter he was shyer than his brother and sister and kind of shyed away from our attention, but as soon as we got him home he was bouncing off the walls, purring loudly whenever he'd so much as see a person come into the room, sleeping on the beds and just wanting to be held all the time.
For anyone who's never adopted a shelter pet before, this picture truly does speak to their personalities, pets in shelters are often either very shy or very eager to get people's attention, most likely because they've been there for so long, waiting to have their dreams of a forever-home answered. So not only is it a good deed to adopt, but shelter pets make wonderful lifelong companions and family members.
I love this photo, very moving, and speaks volumes. The only thing I had a problem with was the factor of originality; while it is a great picture, the animal behind the bars/cage image has been overdone for many causes, but other than that, a lovely image that portrays a deep, positive message.

If this was any other photograph I would start describing the quality, the focus and such other details, but this particular picture deserves more than that. It has a message, and a very important one - a message that calls to our compassion and love for the small creatures who live in the world beside us. I've met only a handful of people who never had a pet in their homes and they were all grumpy. I think it's because they never had someone to love them unconditionally without asking much in return.
This kitty looks at me in a way I find hard to describe. His eyes betray his hope to find a home, to meet somebody who would love him, who would pet him and allow him to sleep in his/her lap; and these eyes are so deep, so clever, so intelligent... And the way he reaches out with his paws, one clearly sees he wants to be in front of those bars, not behind them. And I wonder: who wouldn't take him home!!
I'm very glad for him and I wish all the cats in this shelter (and not only) a happy ending.

I couldn't agree more. My Flizan is a former shelter cat and she is the most amazing cat in the world (or so I think...).Β
It didn't take long from she came to me before I noticed that when praising her for something, she instantly repeats what she just has done. As she is a fast and observant learner, she now knows lots of tricks and always sits and waits (with eye contact) for me to tell her that she can eat (when I have given her food). She looks really proud of herself, as if she knows she's a "good cat".^^Β
And she loves doing her tricks, to play and search cat-candy. But the thing she loves the most isΒ when I gently stroke her nose andΒ to just cuddle with me.Β
When comming home from university she sits there waitnig for me with those loving eyes. ^^ If she hadn't been adopted I would have missed this amazing cat and her unconditional love for me...

I just adopted a cat about 3 weeks ago from a shelter who looks very similar to Puschel. He's 10 years old and we named him Mr Miyagi, because his whiskers and the hair around his face make him look like a samurai. He's the nicest most laid-back cat I've EVER met in my life, and we drove 2 1/2 hours to go get him and it was love at first sight (I found him on petfinder.com). In other words: adopt from shelters. <3

Very well said and I can only agree. What doesnΒ΄t mean one shouldnΒ΄t adopt kittens, too, they sit on the shelters, too, homeless and forgotten. But they have it much easier to get adopted than older ones or such with a handicap. I didnΒ΄t adopt a cat from a shelter since years because I found them behind the house in the garden, forgotten and lost, sick and homeless, took one who was left behind after his owners moved... an very old, very beautiful tomcat... if he had to go into the shelter, although heΒ΄s a real beauty, he had have no chance to get adopted, the vet said he might be 16 years old, this he said back 2008, but I took him and IΒ΄m so happy heΒ΄s still with me. To me and my family itΒ΄s sure, when weΒ΄ll take cats, weΒ΄ll take those no one wants anymore who are abandoned and forgotten if they come behind the house or weΒ΄ll go to the shelter and give a cat who doesnΒ΄t have good chance to get adopted and take her/him at home... the older ones, the unloved ones are so happy if you take them with home.. no question, kittens love you too, of course, but the ones who sat in the shelter for many months or even years are so happy to get a home and they show it and return your love with all the love the have... I can only agree with you, Hoschie.
Glad that Puschel found a new beautiful home!

Beautiful photo ...and I agree. I'd save them all if I could.....
Most of my pets have come from rescue. My first dog was adopted when he was 16 (years) from a shelter. He was just lying in a corner looking completely miserable and we (me and my dad) just felt sorry for him . We obviously didn't have him many years given his age, but knowing he died happy, with a home and with people who loved him and not unwanted and pining himself away at the shelter made it more than worth it. I'd happily do the same thing again.
Bruce my second dog was from the same shelter. He was just under a year old but had skin problems (due both to sensitive skin and stress). He was scared and timid of most people to begin with, but seemed to trust me, he even dug his heels in and tried to come back to me when one of the girls who worked there initially tried to take him back to the kennel after I'd walked him (I still claim Bruce chose me ) Bruce's skin problems did clear up with some tlc and he grew into a very playful, friendly and affectionate dog. He was my shadow and followed me everywhere. I still miss him
I have a black cat at the moment adopted from Cats Protection (UK rescue group) and volunteer for them now He is one of the most playful, intelligent and loving cats I know (and if Bruce was my shadow-dog, Freddie is my shadow-cat
)

One of the cats we have at home is from a no kill shelter. Gremlin is princess of the house while Hindi, a stray we took in, is definitely the queen. Cats are one of the best anti-depressants I know.

Omg she looks just like my adopted cat Cleo o3o
When I got her I was ordering pizza and she came out of the bushes all lovey dovey, I was shocked how friendly she was. Found out 3 weeks later she was pregnant and gave birth to 7 kittens 5 months ago. All found great homes except for 3, and one I'm keeping and one is still under debate ^_^
It is sad how much cats are loveable and caring, yet no one wants one

One of the best cats I ever had wasn't a kitten when I got her, she was an adult. She has since passed on but she was one of the coolest individuals I have ever loved & shared my life with. In fact I hope to have her likeness as my newest tattoo soon. Good message! Older cats are rad!

I got my cat from a shelter when he was about four years old. He had been abused in his previous home and locked in a shed, so he was very scared of people at first, and very thin. He is about 12 now, friendly, lazy, adorable and the most wonderful pet I have ever owned
Glad to hear Puschel found a great home too!

Yeah. I got a black cat. If you where to come into my house he'd run up the stairs and hide under my mum and dad's duvet. If I try and stroke him, He tries to kill my hand, bitting it and scratching it with his back paws BUT If my mum or dad was to stroke him, he wouldn't care! I sware my cat has something against me...

lol That happens with our older black cat. If you rub his belly or scratch a certain spot under his chin, he'll sink his fangs into your hand XD
