Description
The lamp i was using actually caused the heating of the M&Ms and Skittles so much, that one simply cracked. I guess the chocolate expanded. i have many shots from this session, but im happy with this one, and another, the most. let me know what you think.Related content

I'm really not suprised that the M&M did not jump up and beat the crap out of the Skittles.

I absolutely love this picture! The whole idea is just awesome. You take such a thoughtful title "When World Colides" and add it to candy!
I love it!
most definitly need to add this one! You did a lovely job with your picture! The lighting is perfect! And I love how all of the skittles are blurred but the one..really puts the focus on the m&m and the one skittle! Awesome job!

I find the crack in the M&M adds to the "When Worlds Colide" I mean at first I was wondering if the crack in the M&M was intentional. It's almost as if the M&M was forced into servitude even, since it seems like a calm contrast, but that's just me, and i am a bit crazy I thought at first it was a personal social statement
but thanks for shedding some light on that (i know that was REALLY bad, but had to be said)

in a sense it is a social observation. either forced to crack, or intentional, to show servitude, we all at times crack under pressure. the enviroment in which we choose to live contains contrasts, which can cause energy, to be delivered in a destructive manner... unless we choose to change

The M&M panicked. I mean, its a blue, chocolatey treat nestled amongst a gaggle of red, fruity morsels(I swear I'm not hungry, by the way *cough*). It cracked under the scruitinizing gaze of the narrow-minded Skittles.
...or, the chocolate just expanded, like you suggested. Who knows? Candies might have brains, or maybe I'm just hungry.

Delicious .. considering saving the 100 quid I'd have to pay extra for a Canon 100mm instead of the 90mm .. the 90mm is supposedly more adapted to digital cameras than the 100mm .. but there's supposedly no noticable difference ...
Hm .. Oh the hard choices in life.

hotwir3 In reply to Jacon [2007-01-31 12:22:59 +0000 UTC]
well the extra 10mm would give you a very slightly larger working distance, the distance between the front lens element and the subject. for still life macros, you wouldnt really find that extra distance useful (only for lighting sakes). However, for insects and the like, 90mm or 100mm is way to small a focal length. we need to get so close to the subject (for 1.1), we'd scare the buggers away. Id go for a Tamron 90mm and spend ur cash on lighting....
hope you make the right choice.
ps: i got my tamron for £200, £70 cheaper than the newer Di version. this helped me afford a SB-600 (nikon flashgun), which helped my marco no end! (see smoke pics for evidence!)

Really cool! I like how the m&m is not just different because its a different colour, it's also cracked and has an "m" on it rather than a "s". It looks like the m&m just doesn't belong there and has cracked under pressure. The focus is also effective.

the 's' are smarties, and indeed the 'm' was feeling the strain from being under pressure from its nemesis!
im happy you liked the shot, and thank you for your comments

I used a Tamron 90mm macro lens, at its 1:1 focus point. also, a manfrotto tripod and some half-arsed lighting system.
