Description
This is Betty's Bay, South Africa......A Really beautiful, calm and rural beach town across False Bay from Cape Town...We've had a house here since I was born and this place is known for one thing only.....wind, wind and more wind(and the world's densest flower population....7000 species per hectare) . It's always blowing and it blows like hell. It locks you down in your house and it makes enjoying nature almost impossible.I went there yesterday with my girlfriend just to spend valentines day away from any parents...and when it got close to sunset she told me the wind had died...I just laughed and said 'yeah right'...and to my surprise it did...So I grabbed my cam and went to this lake...
pano of 6 vertical shots....[][][][][][]
cokin p121...lots of processing
I'm getting sick of pano merging. want that god damn lens.NOW

Beautifull landscape... I really wish I lived where you did... Nice photo!
Did you think about the composition of the light? the reflection of the mountain and clouds? the rocks in the water? the grass on the left and on the beautifull lighter/darker edge of the lake? the houses on the foot of the mountain?
You know what, I think you didn't... What do ya' say?

Not all of those things....certain things just go along with the main elements of the composition. Firstly I wanted the mountain and it's reflection. I wanted to get the whole mountain with the warm light of the low sun shining on itand I definitely needed some clouds, without shooting into the sun(on the left). Getting to the water wasn't that easy. I drove around the water body twice and decided on a spot where I had to walk about 20 meters through bushes and then It's a 5 meter walk through shallow mud to get the clear edge of the water. I was standing on rocks. I actually wanted those rocks in the middle against the reflection of the sky but it wasn't possible. I'll definitely be returning to this place. It's a bird sanctuary so if I go sit there 30 mins before I need to shoot I can get some awesome birds in. and i want more clouds....

So you're saying you think more about the stuff that are practical for shooting the photo? Interesting.... Ofcourse you think a little of whats going to be on the image, but the description you just gave me contains more practical photography reasons and image issues

well it's more an issue of what you want and what you can get. If I want the mountain and it's reflection then I have to take the houses on the edge. and the edges of the lake and what not

Wow dude, definitely a great photograph. I'm completely stunned by the visual clarity and seriously the beautyful taste. The scenery is amazing. A guaranteed +fav man. Btw when you make a pano, and you load the images into PS. does the entire image sort of curve? so you would have to crop it in order to get the above rectangular image?

There are different merging options and each give a different merged pano. But yes, you always have to crop it

Lol. Yeah, you get that with portraits too...
I also hate it when you take the pic a fraction of a secons too soon and miss out on the best shot that way too =/

OR you get to focused on getting a specific shot and you completely miss out on everything else....

yes!...but that can be half the fun of it all - sometimes...
i like to do a more spontanious style of portraits, so it kinda plays into my hands??

I have to say, even without the nice fancy lens, you do a good job with the panos For such a windy place, its amazing to have gotten 6 shots with barely any ripples on the lake.
