"Truman watched his bullies run off with his clothes, laughing at him as he lay in the leaves. This time, it was oddly calming, and despite the humiliating nature, Truman framed it in a better light: he was content with where he is. Removing leaves from his face, Truman giggled, looking down at himself. They must have run out of clothing because his clothes were rather unisex besides the thong he was wearing.

Truman had come out as transgender recently to a smaller group, but in high school, everything spreads quickly. Most didn’t care, but some wanted to make fun of Truman and took their bullying to a new level. Snarky comments elevated to physical bullying, which advanced to full-on assault. During gym for the last week, Truman would be cornered and forced into female clothes. The bullies would take Truman out and dump him into a leaf pile off the school grounds before running away and hiding his male clothing. At first, it was embarrassing, but oddly, it was wholesome in a twisted way. These boys gave Truman feminine clothes for free, but their way of doing it was questionably unethical. Truman didn’t know why; he knew he had turned a new leaf and felt happy."
