Description
Another of 's characters. This is my 2nd entry for the contest. I learned so much from painting this. Mostly that, painting form a description and a sprite and being given lots of freedom is awesome!She lives where there's lots of snow and cold, so I gave her a nice jacket and fur all over. And Shes out practicing magic, reading from her spell book. Shes just started casting in this image. She is a Ice mage, and thus reading from a book labeled Glacies Veneficus, which, according to a free translator tool, means, Ice Magic
Anyways. There's probably flaws and such, but i'll see to them as you point them out!

This is a great Makitsu. I loved the mood and her scary eyes. ^^ You created such an amazing world behind her.
It's very interesting using the cave's walls to frame her. I'm just not sure about the black frame outside it all. I don't think it's really helping the composition...

Before, I had a cool gray behind her, It seemed to be ok, but it was not giving that nice of a feel, so I went for a matted look, that used black to push the picture forward. Its kind of like a slack excuse because I really didnt know what to do, as the canvas shape is so abnormal, haha. What would you suggest? No frame at all?

I like the black of the cave, but don't think it was needed to frame it over. I enjoy abnormal shape, ehehehehe. The arc it created and all.
But it's only my opinion. ^^ For the contest, guess it won't affect anything.

Ah, well thank you for your opinion. I love getting the outside feedback, because I'm so used to seeing it one way, its so easy to gloss over mistakes and different elements like that. You know what I mean.

Colours are great as always, I find that "conflict" between warm colours and the 'Ice mage-theme' pretty interesting. Some other artist could have used different, more "colder" colours, so this is something unusual to me (again and in a positive way, of course!). I can't say if the landscape after the cave is the sky or a mountain slope (I prefer this view
Details are great, especially the text in the book is an good extra. It gives a hint that the artist has familiarized himself with the subject. That whirl under her looks great too.
Only one part looks like it doesn't belong to the picture. That ornament near her ear is too "clear", if you compare it to overall style.
The second thing which is unusual is that you have the courage to suit that woman properly!
Usually when I see a woman mage imaged she has some kind of daring bikini-gear on her. I dont have anything against half-naked women, but somehow I detest work like those, maybe because I prefer more realistic looking clothing for "combat". Even if it's fantasy.
Maybe those 'nameless artists' just want to attract more viewers, dunno.
Btw, that pose doesn't look stiff to me.

I was experimenting with cooler colors at first, but you know me, lol. "Normal" colors are boring. I have to do something strange. The background is totally up to personal choice, lol. Because im a slacker!
I have to agree, that ornament is much too clear, and its on a bit of a wrong angle. I can go back in and fix that up.
And thanks, haha. Yeah, I notice, the more clothes on a character, the less faves it gets, haha. Also, the character is a librarian too, so her dressed as a hoochie would just be totally out of place.

lol, thanks...You know, I started pulling this to a finish and was like "Oh dear...."
Its so...stiff. Not what I wanted at all. But then, whatever, haha. Im going to start our little challenge by doing drapery studies.

And yeah, it's a bit stiff. I think that has more to do with how the head is positioned on the neck, though. Though a more err flowing dress would probably have helped too.

Depending on the language used the title may actually be Veneficus Glacies. A lot of European languages with Latin roots (and Latin itself) has a different arrangement from standard English, so by right this could very well be "Magic of Ice". But now I sound like a pompus ass

I took 3 years of Spanish classes in high school and studied some language structure independently. Not that I speak anything but English fluidly, though I would like to learn Spanish again. But anyway.
