Description
Since someone asked me how much if they commission for emoji, I drawn these to see how much time I need to spend on them. Unfortunately, I think I'm not very successful with the emoji at hands. I drawn too much details that disappeared upon shrinking down. Some things that I learned when doing pixel arts (on another account):
- try to decide which areas are important and which are not, and make the important ones bigger; for example the hands need to be bigger, while the blouse can just be a teal area in the background
- don't use small details like the butterfly barrette or the rim/bow on the blouse; they won't be discernible when shrunken down and only lead to confusion
- try painting lineless (without black/darker lines around colored areas), outlines usually don't work at all on small resolutions
- don't use small rim shades (like the shadow from the hair on the face), only shade areas that are bigger; if you don't like the outcome, try adding additional shading AFTER scaling down
- add highlights/reflections (like on the hair/in the eyes) after scaling down as well
- small lines that are important (like the closed mouth or the eye lashes) should also be added after scaling, or they might just disappear completely
Don't know which resolution you want to end up in, so maybe not all these tips are applicable.
