Description Here is my entry for DeviantART's Mythical Creature Design Contest!

After playing with a few ideas I decided to land on the traditional Unicorn! I love their concept and the various amount of legends built around them; I think they are one of the most magical and mythical creatures that exist in folk lore and legends!

I chose to to design two Unicorns, one adult and one a young fawn because I liked the Idea of the young Unicorn dreaming of one day being as magical and beautiful as its elder ( It also makes me think of how various artist on DeviantART inspire me as well)

As for colouring, i wanted to keep the colour scheme as a simple greyish/blue with hints of pastel pale purples as well; the shade of green glow around the Unicorn's was sampled from the bright green of the DeviantART logo and I think it helps bring out the Unicorns from the black background!

I know horses do have eyes like this but since the rest of their eyes is so dark in gerneral people dont notice.
With only the pupil showing it makes them look like goats, dont you think ?
Maybe the goat look is wanted, but at least to me it's a little confusing right now.
Seeing how well you've drawn the unicorns, it's hard to believe that you didnt pay attention to details like, horses not having slpit hooves, or the snouts not looking like the one from a horse.
Your comment says somethign about a young faun. Now that's a goat like creature as far as I know, but does it have something to do with unicorns ?
I'd really like to hear some explanation.

Yeah they do, our horses pupils are thicker than the ones I've drawn, I chose to make their eyes look in a way goat-like and the bright blue colour to give them a sort of mystical look, a colour that didn't look to menacing or so dark the pupil wasn't visible and the blue seemed to go well with the Unicorn's colour as well.

I'm interested in the look of traditional Cervine Unicorns the most, as they seem a lot more magical and in a way a lot more believable to be a real creature because there have been sightings of one horned goats and deer and because of people being superstitious in the past I can imagine someone catching a gimps of one in a woodland or something and describing them with qualities of goats, deer or even horses. I love horses too though and legends seemed to shift and change into the Unicorn being a one horned horse but when drawing them I didn’t want to lose too much tradition so I wanted to creature something that had characteristics of all three and still came together to make a unique creature. The deer with its larger-than-usual ears, longer legs and my reference to the baby being a 'faun' as in baby deer gives it something different then a foal; then I looked to the goat with its eyes, fluffy bits around the legs, chin, tail and back and also the pinched looking smaller nose to bring it away from looking to horse-like and then adding in the horse I wanted to show its long mane, it’s build and size and the way a horse carries its self along with a splash of the deer's elegance thrown in too.

Now that you explained it, it's quite an interesting concept.
I think this could be pushed even further.
Maybe the horse aspect is still too dominant and it should become clearer that it's not a "strange horse but a really fantastical creature. I'm sorry, I dont have any better ideas right now.
