Description Arrietty & Sho, Karigurashi no Arrietty (The Borrower Arrietty)
The title comes from the theme song's lyrics.

Felt like drawing something relaxing and calming - amidst all the hustle and bustle of life and whirls of thought, we sometimes just need to sit down and listen to the peacefulness.
Or perhaps some soothing music: [link]

I didn't expect my first drawing of them [link] to be faved at all. I personally hate that one, because they look so weird, and it doesn't portray their personalities well, so I decided to do another quick one, following 's advice. I WILL color this sometime. Sometime.

Characters belong to Studio Ghibli.

They have a very peaceful air, both of them staring into each others eyes. Are they from a show or movie? It looks like a very interesting one ^_^

'The Borrowers' was originally an English novel. Then Studio Ghibli made an animation film out of it, with some new interpretations, I believe. It's not a long film, so you should definitely go watch it! I can't say if you'll like this one in particular. There are all sorts of different opinions out there, but I personally love it, as with most of Studio Ghibli's works.

(Do you know Studio Ghibli? They did famous animation films such as Spirited Away, Laputa, Howl's Moving Castle... You can check out my gallery - I've got quite a lot of fanart of them. They're like the Disney of East Asia.)

Studio Ghibli, I've got to check them out. I loved Howl's Moving Castle, that was an amazing movie. I have as of yet to see the others.

The borrowers actually remind me of a book I read a lot time ago. You know I was so intrigued by the Secret World of Arriety that I tried to find it online just now! But there is no place to watch it, guess I have to go to the good ole movie story and buy it.

So you've seen Howl's Moving Castle. That one's one of my all time favorites. Howl's so hot! Some of my old school friends just didn't understand the concept of how a 2D character can be "hot", and how you can fall for a fake 2D drawing. But the drawing has character, personality and life. All the more so because there is another dimension that's not defined and is completely free for you to fantasize about and make all your very own. That's how they become 3D.

Nooo! Don't buy Arrietty yet. I've got a link for you to watch it on! [link] (It's split into 4 parts though, so you'll have to find the button that says "next" on the bottom right corner.) If you still really like it, and want your own version, then go buy it. I have all the Studio Ghibli works on DVD, but that's only because I adore them.

How can a 2D character not be hot? Well unless they are ugly! And I've seen plenty of movies where both the characters are not hot, and don't have half as much personality as a Howl does, or even other animes. Maybe its because they feel 2D is for kids and we should be watching real life "adult" shows.
But anime and cartoons aren't just mean for kids, osme of them are to violent and if nothing else these shows are meant to be enjoyed by anybody ^_^

Ohhh thank you so much! I watched the first two parts yesterday, but I couldn't finish the rest because I wanted to go to bed early, but that didn't happen though. I can't wait to finish the rest today

Yes, I absolutely disagree with anime being for kids. Cartoons might be for kids, but anime definitely isn't. People too often associate one with the other, when they're completely different. I find that most anime have much more depth and meaning than a lot of other "adult" movies. Whatever they have in the film industry, anime has, but anime has even more. They can explore things that real life movies cannot, or fear to.

The Borrowers is very calming and slightly nostalgic, and the soundtrack I just adore. Let me know your thoughts when you finish it!

Well not even cartoons are just for kids. Some are targeted for adults like "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" and even shows that are targeted for kids gain quite a popular standing like "My Little Pony". Although Anime is definitely on a different level. Pershaps anime can explore other things so well partly because of its 2d nature and the ability to shape that world into a much more fantastical world that we can relate too better because we can connect on a more emotional level. But those are my musings.

I shall! But I barley got through the latest Pili episodes today and I didn't even get started on my homework. T_T

So you're watching PiLi as it airs? That's pretty cool! Does that mean you've seen everything that came before? Even the really old ones?
Which arc/story do you like most? Huang Quan aside - because that's given.
And what's the current one about?

Yup! Me and my illegal downloading.
Nah not everything, I've watched about 9 season of Pili (if we count the one right now) 8 consecutively, and one I went way back.
I loved ηΆ“ζ¦η΄€δΉ‹ζ’Ÿηš‡θ«–ζˆ°, it had a lot of my favorite characters and really was very intricate. But I honestly can't tell you the plot. That's my only shortcoming with Pili, I understand basically if a character is good or bad and more or less what happens to them, but I can't explain plot, that is over my head. Partly because Pili is so complicated and partly because characters do stuff for certain reason's that I could understand only if I could read the subtitles. Like friends who suddenly fight each others, there is a reason but I don't know why. All I can say is that Pili in the end is just one never ending battle of good verse evil.

Well, it's ok! 加油! (Jia you - Literally "add oil".) Once you get your Chinese pinned down, you'll be able to understand it! This kind of motivation is one of the best kind, because it comes from your passions. ^_^ Not from your ego or from thoughts such as "revenge" or "I have to beat everyone".

Wow, thanks so much! I'm really touched you'd go to all that trouble!
Yeah, I can definitely see what you mean now. I think Sho shouldn't change. Maybe Arrietty's pose could a little.
Thanks!! XD

ahh.... I can feel their emotions now. an air of tiredness around Sho, the active arrietty… I like it!

Thanks! ^_^
I'm just unsure about Arrietty. Is she too "tough" looking? Almost gangster-like? I tried to take away her left arm, but that just made it look like she was trying to seduce Sho. =.=
And maybe Sho shouldn't look tired...?

Sorry I'm bombarding you with questions!

mm, I think she might be a tad too tough; she's only supposed to be somewhat a tomboy. Sho's tiredness is good: it shows his condition as well as his continuous caring of arrietty.

Thanks again! Great advice. Comes from being a writer, huh?

I guess; but being a writer means I have to paint the picture with words...

In a sense, that gives a lot more freedom, both to the writer and the reader, which is nice.
