Description This is the XM-3 Technology Testbed Aircraft, nicknamed "Target", due to its immense radar cross-section.

This expensive, and ridiculous looking aircraft is not intended for actual combat. There are only 4 made and it is merely designed to test new technologies and push them to their limits.

Due to its strange shape and engine, it feature last-gen fly-by-wire technology and is capable to be modified for Remote-Control for testing under extreme G-forces, such as encountered by supersonic supermaneuverability. Its supermaneuverability is made possible by its strange wingshape, which gives it superb stall-behavior, its "triple tail", which features independably-steered elevators, rudders and ruddervators, 30 degrees of thrust-vectoring everywhere in the 2d-enviroment, and special "vacuum/bleed valves", which are wing-based grates which can be opened and closed to either pull a vacuum under/above the wing, bleed engine thrust under/above the wing, or simply create drag under/above the wing.

The two engines are a prototype Turbojet-powered afterburning ramjet. Which works as following: The air enters trough the front airintakes, after which it is slowed down due to engine-geometry and some is bypassed to the augmentor. The air that enters the turbojet engine is used to produce (relatively) oxygen-rich exaust gasses, after which a augmentor pours bleeded air in the exaust gasses which then enter a ramjet which burns most of the remaining oxygen and creates high pressure, high speed exaust air which after passing throug a (scramjet-like) afterburner gets aimed by the vector-exaust and pushes the aircraft foward.

All of these things make it a unpractical aircraft, but it is loved during airshows because of its maneuverability and has paved the way for engine-bleed steering.
