Heya. Thank you

Sure you can ask and sure i will give you the answer hehe

Boots are from Kadis Set. While in addition the Legs are from Blood Red Outfit. The cloak is from White Knight adding some Iray Fur Shaders.

Thanks. I need a decent set of fur topped boots. The Kadis is almost close to what I am after.

But as they have usually metalfront you need to reduce opacity of metal parts in surface tab. Thats what i did.

You did a great job in postwork, it's the style I try for but more often than not don't get the results I want.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hubby72 In reply to SnowSultan [2018-01-11 15:50:19 +0000 UTC]

Yes. This is very depending on the colours you use. For that as you can see in my pictures i use warmer , yellow and brown colours. often mixed with soemr ed. this combination works good with niktools to get that classic painted look

Would it be possible to see one of your renders before you do any postwork? I'd really be curious to see how much you change it and what sort of lighting you use in the scene. Thank you again for your time, I've been a bit more inspired to return to 3D since seeing your work.

That is really an honor for me that i am inspiring for you. Really.
Never stop. If you have ideas of art when you want to and already have taken the basic road to 3D then go ahead. You really shoudl So many possibilities.

I have uploaded the raw render of this scene to my personal blog image archiv.
You can find it here :Β www.subwaytotatooine.de/wp-con…

Thank you, you're very talented and your art is exciting! Thanks too for that render, it looked much closer to the final postworked one than I expected. You're very good with lighting and I will have to study what you did there because I have not had a lot of success getting that look since I switched to Iray.

Hubby72 In reply to SnowSultan [2018-01-14 10:12:24 +0000 UTC]

Again thank for the compliment
Perhaps this comes as i am focusing a lot on fantasy scenes where light and colours are the keys. I can setup a scene like this in 2-4 hours but i can easily spent another 4 hours just for the lights

Here it is an easy light setup.
I used an HDRI from Dimensiontheory form the IradianceLightProbes for a general lighting. The behind Fia the Fire has some emmision which is great because it is already placed behind the main character. And last but not least there is a spotligt coming from top left and a bit to the front. It is pointing beetween the women on the ground and Fia. Light spreading is increased so thast it will also light up the whole middle of the scene.

I personally found IRay much easier to received good light as it was in 3DL as it just works as it is expected. It is just like in reality. But you first need to forget anything about lights from 3DL before.
Except basic things like how to setup a typical 3 spot light setup which as almost standard is video or photo shooting as well.

SnowSultan In reply to Hubby72 [2018-01-14 19:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Only 8 hours total? Haha, I spend that just experimenting with posing for a scene.Β

Your light setup sounds a lot like what I've used as well, but I have to use a lot of postwork to try and reduce the 'cold' HDRI look. You seem to have gotten it to look 'fantasy-like' directly in the render. Do you use it at a very low value (I do, that helps somewhat)?

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with how Iray works now, it just seems so difficult to get the warm feeling that you achieve in so many of your images. What first caught my attention to your art (besides this one, which I like a lot) was that you're able to have a consistent style in your fantasy renders. Every image was a battle for me, which is why I've taken an almost year-long break from art.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my questions, I appreciate it and certainly look forward to seeing your next creation!

Hubby72 In reply to SnowSultan [2018-01-15 14:22:16 +0000 UTC]

yes okay. Sometimes posing could also takes longer depends how much to fiddle around
Timing was more or less an example.

My - as you said - consistent style is i guess mostly based of the fact that for some kind of renders - for example with Fia - i try to achieve this kind of look.
There are also lots of pictures with Fia that does not fit to that mostly because i just wanted to try something.
I am a big fan of fantasy covers arts like Boris Valejo or his wife are doing. Or what BlasΒ GΓ‘llego did. This keeps me always inspired.
And after a while now - i mean i am doing this for more then 5 years now -puuh - you know which colours and values are work good together to achieve your goal.
As you can see us mostly brownisch, yellow and red colour. That all warm. For lights you want to set in contrast to this use cold colours like blue. When is use a spotligth and want that this is very clear is use a bright blue for that.

Coming back to this scene ,my HDRI is set to very low in this case. Only 0.20 Intensity. And it is already a very dark brown HDRI with a yellow light in it.
The fire is pur default as it comes. It is already a bright flame.
LAst but not least the spot mentioned is yellow/bright brownish with increased intensity, angle and greatly increase Beam exponent, this is what i makes it brighter. Geometry is set to disc instead to spot so yoiu got not so sharp edges. Set to 1500000 Lumen.

Addionally i alwas is environmental panel from Iray EnviroCam. These are a set of planes where you can assign effects light darkness, fog etc. to give more atmosphere and volume to the scene.

You see There is no magic , just very basic here
The best way to find the way you want to set up lights is to do it again and again or just trying around. It is like playing golf simply do it.

Thanks again for the reply. I've actually been making 3D art since 1999, but the last few years have been frustrating because I haven't been able to get the results I want.

Most of the settings you describe are things I've tried, so I guess I'll have to keep experimenting. I'm not familiar with Iray EnviroCam though, and I'll look that up. Thank you again for the advice and describing your methods clearly. Take good care!

As you can see i am using real objects for the special effects , not paintshop brushes etc. All i have done is mixing the right combination of filters and colours. I am using Google Nik Tools here.

I am really lousy in using brushed or painting
