Description

I drew this after breaking a mental fog and finishing chapter 7 of my draft (I'm on 9 now). Which means the introductory arc of this story is drafted. This is the farthest I’ve ever gotten on a draft. I’m freaking giddy. I’m very, very nervous about how this idea will be received but SD-Sturmbannführer Stromann is the structural protagonist of my big historical fiction project so what the hell. Controversial is just my trademark at this point.

Here's what The Parallel is about:

Yancey Love considers his life really freaking uninteresting. So what that he’s got DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), it’s nothing like what a lot of movies would have you believe. Mostly he covers his apartment in sticky notes, attempts to keep a stable job, tries to decipher what “Michael” wrote on the shopping list, and meticulously records his days in his journal, hoping that someday all the puzzle pieces might come together and things will make sense. Social life? Primarily Dr. Shelby Lloyd and his social worker who never answers his calls. Hobbies? Well, he and the System do collect records and know the lyrics to almost every Elton John and Billy Joel song. But that’s it, really.

Until his unique situation, (more unique than he realizes,) lands him on the radar of some dimension-hoping criminals who think that his having seven different ESP auras could be the answer to the Boss’ Big Whopping Problem. Unfortunately for them, Yancey & Co are not their breakthrough. That’s River Kodai, a 14-year old powerhouse who swings into the story just in the nick of time like a flaming wrecking ball. (Or as “Vicky” describes it in chapter 3, the feeling your head might get when standing directly behind a roaring jet engine).

River doesn’t really have hobbies or friends either, but he does have a sister, and she’s missing. His pursuit of her lands him in a giant mess involving a parallel dimension, psychic abilities, political upheaval, questionable scientific practices, and now unfortunately, Yancey & Co, who was just bleeding-heart-dumb enough to agree to try and help him. Don’t blame him too harshly, he thought he was only going with him to Topeka and it would take a day or two, not the three books that his author has planned.
