Been saying this for years! The same Americans will say, "Palestine was never a nation therefore the Jews deserved to take the land from them." Then will turn right around and say, "The American settlers were heroes and it doesn't matter that they took the land from the Siux, Cherokee, Choctaw, etc Nations."

Oh but don't worry, I'm sure that turning them into sports mascots and featuring them in westerns made up for it...

Seriously, it saddens me that Native Americans have been done so dirty and there's so little that I as a person can do to fix it. My heart especially breaks for the Native Alaskans because not only were they tortured and mistreated for being Natives but also persecuted and culturally genocided by protestants for being Orthodox. And not just in the 1800s either, the mistreatment and attempted forced conversion of the Native alaskans extends until at least WWII when the US Navy burned Orthodox Churches and kidnapped Alaskan women and children to put them in concentration camps. But remember, we were the "good guys" right?

The good news is that there are things you can do, support the Orthodox Diocese of Alaska and help right these very wrongs! Help the Orthodox Church building schools in Native languages so that these cultures don't disappear, and send priests to the most rural of villages to work in those schools so that Jesus can be praised by every language.
