Description

In Nate Dogg's voice - Study memes everyday

Joke aside, if you can afford art school, look into it.

But with internet, we have more materials than ever. Not just all those drawing websites, full with drawing resources, but also just a simple Google search can give you a lot of things to learn from. And it's free.

And another thing that is free are memes Though, I can't say I'm good at making those, I enjoyed this one and learned a few things. I love the subtle quirks and how they get the idea across with minimum text and imagery.

So, look into memes when searching for drawing practice. And keep that pencils busy!

Art school for me was super biased. Each instructor specialized in a specific art style or movement so they were always "meh" towards other things. I can't say I learned a whole lot, aside from learning that printmaking is a pain in the ass lol I learned more in my art history classes, which were actually more fun to me than any of my 2-D art courses. Everyone was so focused on squeezing out a deeper meaning from our art pieces that critique day always ended in a hilarious polarizing black and white for me. 5 students in a row would have deep, emotional, super thought provoking pieces of art then I would come up with a wooden goose and the instructor would be like "I get a sense from this piece that you're conveying a caged bird, dying to break from its captors and just soar with elation on its new found freedom from the pressures and stress from your life". I looked at him and said "No this is just a flying goose because geese are cool" he always gave me C's lol

I guess it depends.  There are pros can cons definitely.  For some people art-school can be a gateway into unlocking potential they never knew that they had.  For others it can be a colossal (and sometimes expensive) waste of time.  I was blessed that my schooling was paid-for by my employer.  However, if I had to be honest everything that I learned in school I probably could have learned watching YouTube videos for free.

If I did have to pay out of pocket, I might have been kinda salty.

A lot of the YouTube tutorials can amount to a lot of an artist showing you what "they" can do rather than teaching others how to do it.  Teaching is not easy.  Especially from a highly-creative person because sometimes there really isn't an explanation as to how or why we do something.  It just "feels" right.  You can see things other people can't and you just DO it.  Kinda like how Michael Jordan is the G.O.A.T B-Ball player, but he stinks as a GM.

Very nice meme and massage.

Before anyone considers art school maybe look into proko's podcast "draftsman" on youtube especially episode 2 of season 2

Sweet suggestion. He's a great artist and teacher, I've watched his videos, but I wasn't aware of his podcasts. Overall I prefer longer videos while I draw, so I'll check them out, thank you.

You're welcome, yeah his stuff is pretty great, I'm also a huge fan of the Ctrl+Paint guy Matt Kohr.

It's quite interesting because there are often topics, he doesn't talk about in his tutorial videos.
