Dammit, I really hate it when I see more of these Milestone characters show up.  Because then I think back to the good old days...when the late great Dwayne McDuffie was around.  And it makes me kind of sad.

But still...awesome pic.

Yeah...I also believe the DC animated universe lost something when he passed away.  The quality of their stories has gone down a bit.

Then again, I think he and Bruce Timm really spoiled us during the whole JLU days...

On another note, other than Static has DC done anything else with the Milestone characters since the New 52 reboot?

Yeah, they definitely spoiled us, but Young Justice is still great. As for Milestone, Icon and Rocket and Hardware got some love.

Oh?  Hardware is back in the New 52?  I'm gonna' have to look it up.

I still have all the original Hardware series issues (and the first twelve issues of Blood Syndicate, and the first ten issues of Icon, and the first few issues of Static).  As you can tell, I was kind of partial to Hardware.

The one thing I liked about Milestone is that they were not afraid to approach subject matter that the mainstream Marvel U and DCU merely danced around.  They had more of an edge than the others had and it took Marvel and the DC mainstream a couple years to catch up to that (and no, I don't count the Vertigo imprint as part of the DC mainstream back then).

I know some people back then took one look at the Milestone covers back then and went "Oh, this is DC creating a politically correct separate line to please the multi-cultural crowd".  Even I was hesitant and thinking that was I was looking at "PC" DC, but the covers to Hardware and Blood Syndicate looked cool.  And the "open letter" column that Dwayne put in the first issues basically blew me away.  I can't remember the exact wording, but I remember the one line that hit me was "This is NOT 'Black Face Superman'...this not what we're about...we're about telling good stories."

And you know what, they delivered.  Granted some ideas didn't work, but not all ideas will and they did one hell of a job.  When they fused the Dakota 'verse into the mainstream, I loved it.  When Dwayne took over the animated projects...I was kind of hoping to see Hardware eventually show up or even a separate Milestone animated movie.  Sadly...we're never going to see that...but hey, one can hope, right?

I know it's the fanboy in me, but I would have loved to see an "armored legion" team-up concept with Steel, S.T.R.I.P.E, Rocket Red, and Hardware working together as one team.

Hell, maybe (when I get the money) I'll try to commission a piece of artwork with those guys all standing together.

Wow. Really? That's cool. I bought the first issue and hated it. I wish I had given it more of a chance to let it be what it was. I just didn't get that he wasn't supposed to be that much like Superman and it went over my head.

dont remember what issue number it was. I had a good deal, it was a 3 pack, maybe 2 icons and a batman or static shock. I was maybe 8 or 10 at the time, was the coolest thing ever back then buying my own comicbooks. I still have them somewhere.

I just have to say you've blown my mind. I've never seen a White guy speak with nostalgia about Milestone comics or any Black characters at all. It's quite pleasant to hear.

haha well i didnt see it as an issue back then on who printed the comic, and the colour of their skin. He just looked a cool character to me and had a cool name. I think in the comic I read the final page had this green hulk of a monster called Ripper, rip-tide, something like that. I actually copied it when I was younger and put it up on my wall. Good times.

Though STILL I value the old pic VERY much, I gotta say this is a MAJOR upgrade!!!

I like how you STILL kept his bulkness, but slimmed him down a bit, looks like costume can't withstand that muscular upper torso region, like his chest is about to rip outta those spandex...Strong and dapper looking, especially like the new and improved patent leather boots, pretty COOL looking...Even love the slim new cape and how it fits with the new body type.....Wonder if you model him after a certain celebrity?...

Anyhow great job and glad to be one of your newest and MOST humble fans.
