Her planet of origin is many times larger than Earth so she has superhuman strength, so much so she wears heavy boots to help her adjust to lighter gravity worlds. The boots have other functions that aid in her work as well.

Yes, I've been trying to nail his cel shade technique. He posted a psd file that gave a basic guideline for how he approaches it. Some of it is really simple and probably the main thing you noticed is how he blurs his highlight layer and it softens the whole pic. Other parts, which I am still trying to fully understand are not so easy and the main thing is having impeccable lines. Not perfect lines but well drawn, because the lines get lost in his color method which is cool.

i think your line work is great... but for his style you maybe need to work thinner... cool stuff though...

Really? The line thickness stands out? I usually work with a line width that tapers in from 14px on a 300dpi canvas. This time I worked with a line width of only 7px max anywhere on a 300dpi canvas. Also I lowered the opacity and changed the blending layers so the lines would support the underlying color. I will see what it looks like with a thinner line though.

it's a style thing... your lines work here better... because the character is a heavy in posture and build the lines work... Chamba's characters seem a lot leaner and thinner... this piece is perfect... the other two maybe even lack a certain quality i can't explain...

Well, I'm not sure what you're telling me, Omer. I really appreciate the feedback though. These were actually all done on the same canvas with the same line weights, colors and sensibilities. This was indeed a next step in my understanding of his process and I confess to not fully grasping it so I know there's room to grow. The only difference here is the bg color I used here seems to work better than the others is what I come up with. So to be clear, you think I should use a thinner line?

uhm... your style works better with that 7px weight you said you used... any thinner will take away your uniqueness...
but something in the style of this piece looks better then the other two... maybe because here she looks the most feminine... also the shades on her face are simpler and also make her more soft... hence more feminine (again)...
look at all three pieces and take from them what you like and move with it on to better stuff... also look for the weak spots and watch out for them in the future...
