Description
I hope it is not too big file so it doesn't take million years to load and that it doesn't have million typos... Anyway There was lot of big questions with no simple answers (and many had no character they were directed at, but that's ok!) The questions aren't numbered correctly, I simply screenshot the questions from the comments, some may have a number in front of them.Hopefully the lack of speech bubbles does not make this too hard to follow or read, also if it is hard to see what image is related to what thing, I can add picture texts if you want me to
As you notice most of the deities mentioned lack a proper name..I Should think of ones even if they are not mentioned anywhere in the comic, I take suggestions! btw I forgot to mention of the races which are from what continents, they are already grouped so you can take a guess which group goes where!
Here is the previous ask my characters sheet
Thank you for your questions!

The leonine pantheon bears resemblance to the hellenic gods ,just that there's only five as opposed to twelve.
And they seem to be related to the classical elements, with the Sun god being a sky god (air/aether), the war god having fire as his element, his brother being the god of the sea (water), the harvest god represents earth, and the goddess of wisdom has the mind but could also bear relation to the aether or her father holds the aetherial connection and she represents the air?.
Do leonines have wise teachers, who discuss the nature of the world, and is alchemy a subject of their discussions?

I used Hellenic gods as a reference so I am glad you noticed that
Also glad you noticed the element things! I still need to give these gods proper names one day..
I indeed meant the guys as elements and the daughter as sort of a 'mind' representation
yeah they have those, they have philosophers and such they still have the classical way of thinking what world consists of, with the four elements and all that with some philosophers moving a bit toward the scientific method

I totally have to develop the story behind them more! It is quite under developed at the moment because they are never shown in the comic.
In case if you are interested, here is random info I have already thought out for them: because of coyote similarities with wolves, I think I'd say Latranians would be quite similar to lupines, as in.. they'd have packs like lupines, and while they would believe in a creator somewhat similar than lupines, the full moon would hold a less significant meaning for them. But while lupine packs would sometimes be huge , Latranian 'packs' would be always really small and consist of related individuals. and unlike lupines they would not have similar full moon celebrations or gatherings, the Latranians groups would rather be likely to meet because they would actively move to find other groups once in a while, for trading etc. other than that they would otherwise be quite territorial and be quite strict on each others hunting grounds. Other way for them to meet and form new groups would be the fact that the males would be the ones to often pack their bags so to speak and go find a companion and a new pack. Also they would often be in bad terms with lupines and concolorians, and they would often be dominated by them to such extent that they would have to move out of their way if concolorians or lupines were to expand on their territory.. :/ But more than that I have not really developed their culture, yet at least ^^

That poor lupine trying to figure out what's going on and sweating nervously needs to take a small break. No reason they need to get involved and hurt, right..?
(the lowermost one among the fighting lupines)
Awesome Q&A, HunterBeingHunted! I really love their responses (even Rex... stays true to his personality, denying he's a jerk to that lupine). Regarding duels, good to know the defeated gets to work with the victorious new Alpha, keeps the pack good and strong! (That excited pup lol hahaha)
I especially enjoyed the part of the beliefs of them, all unique and very interesting and creative! Might I ask if you had some inspirations for them?) (Also, great tie-in with the great bear's sleep bringing winter, and the ursines following his example.) Personally I had my own wolf and lion worship moon and sun as well (I guess it comes naturally when thinking of them!) and usually solve problems peacefully with each other... not so much with others.
Shadow, I know you were left out by Caligo, but Blue would really like it if you told her about her own people first before telling us, seeing her interest is perked! I'd love to read more on the lynxians! (More of them adorable kitties!!!!!) I am curious to know what sort of relations they have with the birds (as I see in the background), as well as with the lupines, since they are nomadic but not territorial as compared to lupines. Are they somewhat friendlier, or are these rare cases with Blue (adopted family) and Shadow?
Yay, more species!! Those vulpines always seem to have a clever look to them, no?
I am curious to know how the leonine people view the lycanians, or well, other canids in general, since they are similar to lupines yet also different. Likewise, the lupines towards other canids?
Theres never enough art of Shadow and Blue together!! Squeeee

hahah you noticed him! He is definitely not so sure attacking is such a good idea!
I am glad you liked that, and since it is "ask my characters" I had to make them answer.. instead of myself.. ofc I kind of broke that rule on some of the questions to pointed at a specific character...
I think that would be the only way for the duel to work without having the loser strike out at the winner later on.. XD ofc how the duels and losing or winning is viewed affect that too.
I had no specific inspirations, but the leonines belief system is based on that of the Romans ´having very gods that are very human... or well in this case leonine, and who have complicated relations to each other and there are very many of them)
And I guess the lupines idea of a creator can be connected to almost any religion in some level, in a way I drew the inspiration to that from the general idea of a mother nature.
Also ursines themselves do not sleep through the winter.. (they are not physically able to do so unlike normal bears) but! it does tie in with the regular bears and the arrival of winter.. ursines themselves just have to survive the winter until their god wakes up again, perhaps they can fill in to his duty of protecting the forests while he and his first children are asleep...
hehe, She would enjoy that! but Shadow doesn't actually know too much about lynxians, maybe some general information but Caligo having traveled way more actually knows more about lynxians than Shadow does.
I have not actually thought too much about their relationship with the birds yet, but I was thinking something like leaving offerings or food to birds and similarly to lupines they would see them as messengers of the creator. But they would think that each bird is a different kind of messenger (lupines only saw ravens as the messengers of the creator) For example I was thinking Jackdaws could be seen as spirits visiting the living world. (if gathered to a site of a graves, they would most likely be the spirits themselves, and it would be very important not to bother them, that is inspired by old Finnish beliefs actually) and then Swallows could be messengers bringing news of the arrival of summer. (i find that most fitting for them, also inspired by a small Finnish poem) and I was also thinking lynxians would have more depressing view of ravens, seeing them as messengers of death but they would actually share the belief with lupines of ravens being guides for the souls of those who have recently died. And eagle would be the kind of messenger that if seen at the moment when someone is being born, it would mean the one being born would have great strength. but anyway i got a little excited XD maybe I will do a little chart of lynxian beliefs one day.. it is so much fun to create them their own belief system..
and yes, lynxians are in a way friendlier than lupines.. mostly because of being so nomadic and being able to trade and be in good terms with others would be more important to their survival.
and ofc vulpines have a clever look on them, being 'fox people' after all! ;D
Leonines would view lycanines, surprise surprise, as lesser race, but they would hate the Crocunines more (because having so many wars with them)
Lupines however, being so territorial and often isolating themselves in a way.. they would have little problems with other canids if they do not come uninvited to their territory..or too much in their way. Also sharing very similar beliefs would help them get along.
thanks for the comment and interest in my answers! I am sorry if I got a little excited and started to ramble XD

Sorry for the late comment! And sorry also for not asking questions to the characters, but I love this setting SO much! I always like to know more of the worldbuilding aspect!
That said, I absolutely love this!
I love how Shadow is all grumpy for being ignored in the first question! XD And it's also nice to know lupine also had a bit of "warrior tradition" even before the arrival of Leonines. And are those cougars?
The way men and women deal with the problem also made me chuckle ^^ (not to mention Shadow's face in the moon-gathering panel haha)
And yay! Finally we know something about Lynxians! And gosh, that little ball of fluff meowing is absolutely adorable! XD
Man, that sucks. Lupines are basically slaves, "education" my ass! They are kidnapped and then exploited and treated like inferior and incapable of complex tasks. That poor guy's back has been shredded!
This is my favourite part! I LOVE how much thought you have put into the different religions! And I absolutely adore the look of the gods, the symbolism and what they represent. I always struggle with making up religions, so deep respect here!
....sooo we can say ravens are your messengers, we can say!
Nnnnngh! So many races!!! :iconcheetahla: So many possibilities! I really hope you'll write or draw more stories based on this setting, and not necessarily about Blue and Shadow. There are even cheetahs, servals and caracals! I love them so much! ^^
And yeah, let's dance too! They are so adorable together! XD
Well, as I said this work is amazing! I MUST fav. it! It totally deserves it! (and sooner or later I'll have to try something similar)

np, this is a late reply anyway and it is okay if you did not tell who were you asking, it was pretty easy to figure out who wold be best to answer and so on.
Thank you!
yeah they did! but since they had not joined together into a huge pack it was all very small scale stuff.
I had to add that bit of the males and females , I was afraid it might seem offend someone, considering this is the internet, but it was just a joke after all, I am sure lupine males can talk things out too..
kittens are the best
I am glad it is obvious things are not as nice as he says, because I really wanted to stay true to Rex if he was answering this question, he would not admit to such things especially if he would not think those actions as bad!
Telling about the religions was actually one of my favo bits! I did not have much detail to most ideas I had floating around, so it was great to write it all down and think of them a bit more I still lack proper names for most of the gods, some of the I am fine lacking a proper name, like the lupine god that I think should have her true name unknown just like her true form is.. but I think at least the leonine gods might need actual names...
Hahah yes indeed! Go my minions! XD
hehehe that is a possibility! Too bad poor Blue lives in a continent with so little of fellow feline races.. :C but at least there was Shadow, even if he is not one of a feline race.
I must admit I might feel a little sad making another story that was same world but nothing to do with Blue and Shadow, I've just gotten attached to those characters! I somehow feel i'd be abandoning them if I would think of a story like that! but i guess they would not mind.. if I give them a decent ending and some occasional art..
and thank you sooo much again! I am so happy you liked it, I really enjoyed making this myself. I can't wait to see if you make a similar thing!

Heh... I really like this Q&A!
For whatever reason, I can imagine the first question going like this:
Shadow: "Well, it's very-"
Caligo: "This must be a question for me!"
Shadow: "I was answering... never mind..."
Also, the poor, whipped Lupine servant really reminds me of some of the education that Native American children received at various "Indian Schools." Males were generally taught to be farmers, workers, and even football players, but education for girls was generally very brutal and focused strictly on housework. These schools were very much afraid of them "backsliding" when they returned to the rather rough and tumble Indian Reservations and decided to "solve" the problem by hiring them out to local rich families as servants during summer vacation, which marginalized them both among their tribes and in white society. A lot of girls ended up working for the Indian Schools in adulthood as seamstresses and washerwomen or serving the same families as they had as children, not by choice, but because they simply had nowhere else to go.

Thanks! (late reply..)
That is exactly how I imagined that scene went!
oh I never knew that, especially the part about girls, thanks for the info. Funny how a promise of an education might seem fair even kind.. but reality can be so much different, especially if you are not free to learn as much as others or how you want to use the information you have gained.
I think the fear of "backsliding" ids mutual for leonines...

QuebecoisWolf In reply to HunterBeingHunted [2016-10-14 21:42:15 +0000 UTC]
I don't think that Caligo is willing to let any other Lupine take political/military questions. After all, the Great Alpha is the political and military leader and - of course - the most capable of answering them. If only Shadow had taken that advisor position, perhaps he might've been allowed to answer...
Not to say that boys at Indian schools were treated any more gently than the girls, but Indian Reservations in the late 1800s were hard, brutal places in the most desolate corners of the Wild West. About the worst thing that they could do to a child forced to live in one of these places was to deliberately un-teach practical skills like horseback riding and foraging in favor of training them to be suburban housewives. The boys' learning wasn't always much better and since they were often trained to farm crops that just couldn't grow on their reservations, their schooling actively made their lives even worse.
Well... that's understandable. Wherever there are slaves, there have always been slave rebellions.

Hahah You are so right about that! At least Shadow got to be in the full moon gathering scene.. xD
Woah... sabotaging someones learning just to make sure they stay in the position you want them to be in? That is so low, I can barely call that even teaching. I did not know about that either. I suppose I can use that as a source of inspiration for any education lupines are getting from leonines...
and teaching useless info, clever, technically it is educating, only useless.

It was nice of Caligo to send an invitation. He’s been generally quite nice with Shadow.
They didn’t do it on purpose… kind of. There was definitely an interest in “training” the girls, but I don’t think that most of the educator realized how shockingly useless their education was on a typical reservation. I guess I consider it pretty much straight up institutionalization – a system that trains people to be entirely dependent on the system. I imagine that the Leonines teach Lupine pups an equal mix of various “useful skills” to serve their masters and a mix of politically motivated history, religion, and philosophy to keep them happy where they are and hateful of “savage” lupines.

He has (btw sorry for the latest reply ever x.x )
Ah yes, the famous institutionalization...
and yes! I was thinking pretty much that, The leonines would really do as they said and educate the lupines, ofc not too much because surely lupine does not need that as they can't fulfill too demanding positions anyway... As you said, they would be taught just enough to learn to hate the savage lupines and how to be useful part of the leonine society. And surely other races who will or possibly have joined up with Leonines, they all would have slightly different treatment and possibly dislike toward each other, making sure they would never feel the need to join up to an uprising or something..

QuebecoisWolf In reply to HunterBeingHunted [2016-12-30 22:19:38 +0000 UTC]
That's okay.
That's the trouble with educating your slaves - they start realizing how bad their conditions are and then they start using that education to plan uprisings. The Nat Turner Slave Rebellion in the US brought about laws that made it illegal to teach slaves to read and write - really, it was a problem to teach slaves anything more than how to do their jobs and how to worship in a very pro-slavery sort of Christianity that abolitionists mocked as the "gospel of servitude." And I can certainly imagine that the Leonines enemies, rivals, and possibly even questionable allies probably see the captive Lupines as a great resource. It's impossible to count the number of times that nations have encouraged minorities or slaves living amid their enemies to rise up. Various enemies of the British Empire did this with Ireland for centuries.

Great to get so many new info on the world! I especially love how in the first answer, the male alphas are arguing and fighting while females did all the discussing. Typical!
And Rex, I don't think that Lupine appreciate the 'civilization' you are giving him if it means having such terrible scars... The deeds speak more loudly than the words...
