Description
My new sculpture-design. Created by way of plasticine, silicone mold, plaster and polyurethane resin. Very hard work, but many new experiences with a modeling materials. I worked on trilobite for the long term (2 years with long breaks). Thanks for watching!

If they had this kind of armor, these guys would never have gone extinct. Β Long ago, I identified a new genus of trilobite for my MS thesis. Β Since I was a child these have been my favorite invertebrate group. Β Fun fact: trilobites were the first class of organisms to have a compound eye. Before that time (earliest Cambrian) creatures only had eye spots.

This would be a great model design for robot vacuum cleaners.

Almost like a trilobite-shaped spaceship.

Seriously awesome! Β Now just install an AI that leads it to create more of its kind, and we're done ^_^
Seriously. Β Whenever I imagine self-replicating robot swarms, this is the kind of stuff I see them as.

Looks great.
Why didn't you make it out of metal?

Thank you. I did not have the means to do it (bronze, foundry, etc.). I needed to have something like a matrix and then to make a casting of metal. Perhaps in the future will produce bronze and aluminium castings. Working with resin is also simpler.

3D printing would be another option and from that "original" a mold could be taken.
I love creatures with plate armor and will attempt a trilobite too at some point.I am inspired by your piece.I was able to do a pill bug and a chiton using scrap pieces from laser-cutting.The plate armor aspect really lends itself well to robots of bio-mimicry...

Thank you for comment, yes, sculpting was little difficult. Mainly due to the detail size.

Which fossil did you base it on or it is the general version?

I don't use any specific fossil or reference.
